Supreme Court Won't Review Indiana's Case Against Planned Parenthood

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to review a lower court decision that prevents the state of Indiana from cutting Planned Parenthood out of its Medicaid program.

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels ® signed a bill into law in 2011 that prevents Medicaid recipients from being reimbursed for health services at Planned Parenthood because some of its clinics offer abortions. Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union challenged that law in court, and in October 2012, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals permanently blocked it because federal law guarantees Medicaid enrollees the freedom to choose any qualified health care provider.

Indiana asked the U.S. Supreme Court in February to review the Seventh Circuit's decision, but the Supreme Court denied that request on Tuesday.

“Today’s announcement from the Supreme Court is not only a victory for Planned Parenthood’s patients in Indiana, it is a victory for the nearly three million people who turn to Planned Parenthood health centers each year across the country," Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said in a statement.

Yes, because if there's anyone we should be denying obstetric heath care and abortion access to, it's people on Medicaid.

Can someone please enlighten me as to how conservatives can logically justify both A) demanding pro-life legislation and B) shredding the social safety net that helps the families of children who would have been aborted otherwise?

Oh wait, I asked for logic. Oh well. They only care about fetuses before they are born and not when become actual people.

They want people to make responsible choices and then take personal responsibility for poor choices when they don't. That's where they're coming from.

Death Peddlers.. sweet label. I hear they are opening for Ozzy next week.

One would hope conservatives could frame this as a states right victory... but reading the article with all of its double negatives and the maze of acts that kinda-sort prevent money for abortions directly blah blah.. Was it a lower level federal court that stopped something the state was trying to do that then the supreme court declined to overturn? I think so but not 100% after one read through and I need some caffeine before trudging through that nytol in word form again.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Republicans want to promote personal responsibility. Good one!

Well, as long as it conforms with what they consider to be responsible. It's unfair to assume all republicans are evil or that all liberals are bums for that matter.
