POE

Hi all,

I will finally be arriving in the U.S to join my husband on Thursday, May 30 and my POE will be Newark as I will be flying in there before catching my connecting flight. I have been reading up on what happens at the POE and I am unclear of exactly which line I should join, as an IR-1 visa holder. Should it be the citizens/ permanent resident line, or non-citizens/visitors' line? There appear to be posts which suggest that people have used either. Just for clarification, my USC husband will not be travelling with me, he will be collecting me from the airport at my final destination.

Second, as my postal address in the U.S has changed since my interview, am I correct in saying that the onus is on me to mention it to the CBP officer to ensure that my Greencard and Welcome to USA letter is mailed to my new address? Should I tell the CBP immediately or once in Secondary? And do I hand over the HUGE brown envelope as soon as I am called to a CBP from the line?

Finally, in my passport it has my visa shown as an IR-1 visa because at the time of my interview we had been married for over 2 years. I take it that the Greencard I will be sent will automatically be valid for 10 years, or am I still required to tell the CBP that it's an IR-1 rather than CR-1, as it was when my husband first petitioned for me?

In my experience there is no citizens/permanent residents line, they are two separate lines, citizens on one line and residents on another. And there is a third line for visitors.

When my then fiancée came to the states, she waited on the visitors line, because she had a K1 visa, which is a non-immigrant visa. Your best bet is to ask the person on the floor directing people to the proper lines. But, common sense is telling me, you're coming in as a permanent resident, go in that one.

Look for that one.

There is always a visitors line and US citizens/resident line, plus most of the time there are few special lines, one of them being ' New Arriving Residents' line somewhere on the side. Look for that one.

I'm sure every terminal has different procedures.
