When to request medical, police, in Cairo

Hey everyone,

This is kind of a general question about timing in the K1 visa process, but things are just so weird in Egypt that I thought I might actually get better answers if I asked my fellow MENA folk..

So I haven't even received my NOA2 yet, but I am hopeful that it will be coming in a month or so. I'm going to visit my fiancé in a few weeks and so I have been researching the NVC and Embassy Steps (and learning about the potentially horrible scary AP phase) and I want to have all the documents I need to give my fiancé ready so that I don't have to mail them later. My big goal in this visit is to prepare my fiancé for everything coming up since this will be the first time the ball will be in his court with the immigration process.

I've collected all the documents he should receive in his packets and we will gather the passport photos necessary, the I-134 stuff, his birth certificate and military record, his passport, etc, with all the necessary translations. I want him to be able to return that darn packet back to the embassy as soon as he receives it!

So my question is, is it possible for him to get his police and medical scheduled and done before the packet and interview are set? I don't mean he would do it now, because I also know that those things expire... but maybe he could save some time if he does those things once we know his application has reached the embassy or something like that.

How did you guys who are further along than me time all of the documents and info gathering? Did you all wait to receive the packet and instructions or did you do everything ahead of time? I'm not sure if there is something in the packet that you absolutely must receive before doing those two tasks..

I'd be grateful to hear how the rest of you handled that process. :)

I researched what we needed to do before receiving NOA2 but did not start to gather the documents. We started gathering the documents he needed from me after NOA2 and starting gathering his documents once he received Packet 3. Our biggest delay was the medical. We had to wait until the medical was done which took about a week and half to receive the results. The hospital that where he did his medical would not let him schedule without his Packet 3 letter. Also, the police report was really difficult for him to get. Egypt (or at least Cairo) has switched to an "new" electronic police record system and not all the police stations were issuing them yet. I am not sure if that is still the case.

We sent out our Packet 3 exactly two weeks after receiving it.

The police report was super easy for us to get. We got one 3 times because they expire every three months in Egypt, but if I remember right the CO said for the embassy purposes the police certificate was okay for.... a year? (almost 100% sure on that but could have been 6 months...have to double check my notes) We were able to get the police report the same day he walked in, and in one instance he requested it in the afternoon and picked it up in the morning.

The medical you need your interview letter as far as I can tell-- One place accepted walk ins. The other place took appointments.

When I was in Egypt, I made sure my husband signed a couple copies of anything I'd need to be mailing in along the way. I think I had him sign three of everything in case I messed anything up or lost a paper.

You don't want to get the police report or medical done too early as both have an expiration. I don't even think he can get his medical ahead of time. He will have adequate time after getting his interview date to acquire these things. Getting them done early will not make the process go faster.

Thanks everyone! Do we have to return packet 3 before we can schedule an interview? That's why I thought getting everything done before we get the packet might make the process faster, if even by a few weeks. But if we can't do the medical early, then there's nothing to be done I guess. Just getting nervous about everything coming together on time, especially with the weirdness going on with the K1 visa transfers right now.. I have no idea where my application is at the moment! It's hard feeling so powerless to affect the outcome! I'm just glad that there are others going through the same thing or I would probably go crazy. :)

Hello ,

when you got the NOA2 just wait 3 weeks the case will forward to NVC in US and 3 weeks later the NVC will send your file to US Embassy in Cairo and you will get letter with this with a new Case number (you will need the new case number for Medical Exam)... 2 weeks later ur fiance will get a Package from the US Embassy in Cairo asking him for some documents to do ...

1- Form DS- 156 in Duplicate ( 2 Copies of it)

2- Form DS-156k (1 copy)

3- Form DS-30 (1 copy)

4- Copy of his Passport All Pages

5- Copy of his Birth certificate

6- Police report (Original)

7-Copy of the military service (if Applicable)

8- Form I-134 (original) this you will fill and sign with your full name with a proof of your income in the US such as (most resent Federal tax return or pay stubs)

9- Two Passport Photos of your fiance

10- Unopend Medical Exam report.

the Fees of interview is $240 will be paid on the day of interview at the US Embassy in Cairo.

so now you can start doing all this stuff and just wait till you get the new Case number so he can do the Medical Exam and the police report

Good Luck

i forget to tell you :

Police report take 1 day to be done and Medical Exam take 3-4 days to be done

so he can do them once you got the letter with the new case number ( no need to wait 2 weeks till he will get the package from the Embassy )
