Vermont district sued for race discrimination

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) — The father of an African-American student formerly living in Vermont is suing the Springfield School District claiming his son was discriminated against because of his race.

Christopher Meyers is seeking unspecified compensation in a civil action complaint filed in U.S. District Court of Vermont last week.
The suit says a teacher's aide used unjustified force against the sixth-grade boy and in 2010 threatened to impale him with a yardstick and "turn (him) into a fudgesickle," leaving the boy emotionally distressed and causing the family to eventually move to another state.

2010? They're just now filing a lawsuit? Someone must be running short on cash.

Or after waiting for more than two years, the plaintiff is not satisfied with the adminstartive award of $3,000.

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights last summer ordered the district to pay Meyers $3,000 after investigating his complaints.

Who knows when the school district finally cut the check, and how long before the plaintiff found a lawyer willing to take the case on terms the plaintiff could afford.
