I guess we are not so afraid of the truth in my home country . We go pee on the toilet because..... well, that's what we actually do :-D So we say 'I have to go pee' or 'I have to go to the toilet'

Why is that gross? It's natural, it's what we actually do, and we all do it. Even the queen ;-)

And why install a lock on the door, if people don't intend to use it? The locked door is the indicator that the toilet is being used, that's kind of the idea behind it I think :-)

I don't get it either! When I go use the public toilet (or the bathroom as they say here, why?) I don't want ppl to listen to my business. But here you can hear everything.

But as a very private Dane I often find it hard to find any privacy in this country. One day I walked in on someone using the toilet in my new home, and I was told I should have knocked first by my husband.

Why? There's locks on the doors here too! It's not the first time I've seen it happen, another Dane here (of course) assumed the door would be locked if anyone was there, but no.

I know the locks here are really bad, but not so bad you shouldn't use them if you ask me wink.png

So you don't mind announcing what you're going to do on the toilet, you just don't want anyone to hear it? laughing.gif

some us carry a light blanket and duct tape in our carry bags, and 'cover up the crack' when needed.

Duct Tape Rocks !

That's a great idea, lol.

So far I've used my jacket or handbag, but it's never enough to cover the gaps :(

I likes it when they go off when I'm still sitting down.

Why ? I tend to fill em up, clog em up. Tis messy afterwards. But to evacuate my evacuation midstream? OMG ! I never have to worry about clogging up the toilet !

Unless your evacuation does the clogging, and the stuff tries to re-enter where it exited. There's no more panicky feeling* than to witness a toilet about to overflow while one is still deeply involved in doing one's business, no man.

Sorta reminds me of the small burg in Texas where, on a very windy day, the town chicken laid the same egg four times, si man.

*Partial qualification: A rivaling feeling is when one realizes that one has tipped one's chair back about a millimeter too far, crash man.

[...] why [do] you have to pay for toilet paper in the Mexican public bathrooms.

And the paper is inadequate in amount, width, and certainly strength, ick man.

It's a profit center, si man.

In Ecuador, there's never any toilet paper, and (in cheaper places) often no toilet seat, either. Mrs. T-B. objectively explains that people steal it, see man. I still have vivid mind-movies of shady Ecuatorianos furtively sneaking out of public bathrooms with toilet seats in their pockets.

I used to ask for the WC in France but I gave up and now it's "toilette." Ugh.

I ask, "Where's the litter-box, huh man?"

Peter Pan - have you gotten some new ideas from reading your thread?

I hope you can refactor yer public toilet usage sometime soon - I'd hate to read about the 'freak out' in the news media, caused by utilizing a public toilet containing a gap in the door.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Yes! Some of them they just hand you a tiny amount before you go in a stall. Others have a roll dispenser on the wall for everyone to just get their own. I learned to carry my own, but some places charge you just to enter the bathroom. I never noticed any without toilet seats, thank goodness.

When I lived in Okinawa, I always looked for a 'western toilet' because I never got accustomed to squatting over their toilet in the ground bathrooms.
