Ever since the day I left India, my fiance dad has been consistently calling him trying to arrange a marriage for him due to the fact his father feels he should not marry anybody outside his race, religion, and caste! Now since I fall into those catagories, and the fact I am American, his dad views on American women that we dont make good wifes, mothers, and not very family oriented, so that's four strikes against me. My fiance feels that his father might try and force him to marry! He says he wont let this happen but he feels his dad is getting out of control. His dad now got the whole family harassing him about the arranged marriage. He is always telling family members that he is going to marry me and that he does not want the arranged marriage! Now my question is could his father force him to marry? I read topics on this but its mainly been children that are forced and not a grown man, and if so is there anything I can do to help him though this? helpsmilie.gif

Your fiancé will have to be the one to say "I do". Your father cannot sign documents for him. It will ultimately be his choice whether he gives into his father's wishes or not.

Support your fiancé during this difficult time. Remind him of the good times you two share together and begin making plans for your future.

Good luck, I am sorry this is so difficult

My husband's father wouldn't let us marry either, but then we filed a fiance visa and here we are married! Not sure if a grown man can be forced to marry against his will.

I guess he has a point about American Women.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Well it is India and customs there are different then what we know here in the States. An arranged marriage could be put into motion, but in the end he probably can't be forced into it. Now his whole family bogging down on him may be a different story. Just keep supporting him as his future wife. If his father believe's American women are this way just prove to him how you are not a typical American women. After all this will be your future family as well, acceptance may not come easy but what good things in life aren't worth fighting for?

I agree with you on this and he says for me not to worry his dad will love me as a daughter one day when he realize what a good person i truly am!

Well focus on that, and don't let this stuff get in your way. Once negative thoughts start to seep in they are hard to kick out, so stay positive and start thinking of ways to show his father the real you.

Now my question is could his father force him to marry?

Absolutely ! Dad has access to sedatives, will administer to son for up to 2 weeks, get done what he wants done.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I am not sure the reason why people need to smear American women here. Just because you had bad experiences doesn't mean you need to generalize about all American women.

I totally agree with you!!! I never judge anybody by their sex, religion, and race!
