I went to my interview on May 21, and got approved on the spot. Now that I'm sure that my green card is coming, it seems like I'd have to apply for a new one right away.

I came here 3 years ago, and ever since was known under my English name. I got married, took my husband last name, but still have this burning desire to change my first name. As soon as I get my green card, I believe that I can get a court order and legally change my first name. Then change names on SS card, driver's license, banking, etc. all over again. I also did some research on how to change name on my green card, and it seems like a lengthy process, filing form I-90, paying $400+ fee, biometrics.

My question is: "are conditional green card holders allowed to get court orders and change their names and apply to green card replacements under their new names?". Anyone ever went through this process and would have some advices for me?

Thanks.

Yes hubby did this. First you need the Court Order, then you mail a certified copy of it in along with a request to change the name and the fee. He actually did it as he renewed his green card so he didn't have to apply for a replacement and saved the fee.

Hi there,

So should I just get an court order right now and change my name and change my names on every else and wait for another 2 years to change my name on my green card when I apply for removal of conditions? I've thought abt that, but fear immigration is gonna screw me over 2 years from now because there are so many discrepancies. 1 name for green card, 1 name for passport, everything else under another name. Dilemma = =
