ohh glad somebosy ask this.. my mom will be flying on june7th holding a tourist visa.. i wish someone can answer this... but i read on cfo that it only required for those who will migrate abroad...

Immigration didnt let my mom board in the plane because she didnt have seminar stamp? I thought u only go for seminar if you you are fiance or wife/ husband.. Please help

All intending immigrants to the USA (including K1/K2) are required to register and attend the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) at the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO). There is a reminder included in the visa packet.

CFO will put a sticker on your mom's passport as proof that she is registered at CFO. If your mom is 60 years old and above, she's exempted from attending the seminar but she is required to register in order to get the sticker. If she's below 60 years old, she's required to register and attend the seminar, unless she's incapacitated or mentally challenged.

Immigrants are required to attend the seminar. They will issue you a certificate and a stamp in the passport that is needed at the airport before leaving. For tourist, its not a requirement.

US tourist visa holders are not required to attend PDOS. It is only for immigrant visa and K1/K2 holders.

So sorry to hear that your mom was unable to board the plane. Everyone is right, CFO is a requirement to ALL Filipino citizens immigrating to another country. Good luck.

What was your mom trying to come to the US for/ Without that information all this feedback is moot.

If the was on a tourist visa I do not believe she needs to attend. If she's coming on an immigrant visa then yes she has to attend.

CFO can be done before or after the embassy interview. If you do CFO before they will issue a certificate, once you have you visa you return to CFO with the certificate and they will issue their sticker.
