Do we need the welcome notice for anything? It's been 8 days since we got the approval email. We got the green card but no welcome notice. I figure since we have the card, we're in the clear, but is there any important information on the welcome notice that would make us want to try to chase it down?

We never got the letter either. We were in the same boat as you.... biometrics AGAIN after the interview.

Basically, all the letter says is welcome and tells you to keep your A # somewhere handy as this is the number you will use anytime you need to contact USCIS. Your A# will be on your NOA's too.

It also tells you to apply to have the conditions removed on your PR status in two years (less three months).

Other than that, it just gives you the USCIS Service Centre Number.

And you don't need it for anything. Your Green Card is all you need.

I don't think the welcome letter would really be a problem. It doesn't have much on it that you don't already know (ie the next steps to take, A# and receipt #) Though saying that, knowing the USCIS annoying processes, they'll ask for a copy of it when filing for removal of conditions. Ugh.

But honestly, I wouldn't worry if you already have your card!

I looked over the requirements for the I-751 and N-400. They want a photocopy of the front and back of the card, but not the approval notice. So it looks like we won't have any problems even if we don't have the welcome notice (as long as we don't lose the card).

I got my Welcome Letter a few days before receiving the actual Green Card, and I was a little disappointed...I was expecting something fancier, while it's really just a NOA of approval. Don't worry about it, there's nothing special in it, it pretty much contains the same instructions that you receive with the Green Card.

The only thing you might find interesting in it, is that it contains the code (CF6, CR6, etc.), so you could verify whether it was or wasn't the same as the one on your wife's Green Card.

Interesting that it shows the code on the welcome notice... Does the welcome notice show the status you adjusted from as well? Just curious....

This is what my Welcome Letter says:

as I said, it's a simple NOA, so on top it has the Receipt Number, Receipt Date, Notice Date, the case type (I485 Application to Adjust to Permanent Resident Status), Alien #, etc.

Then it says:

Notice Type: Welcome Notice

Section: Adjustment as direct benefiaciary of immigrant petition

COA: XXX (that is, CF6, CR6, etc.)

In the middle it states:

WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

This is to notify that your application for permanent residence has been approved. It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to permanent resident status in the United States.

Etc, etc, etc.

The rest is the same instructions that came with the Green Card.

Thanks. It would have been nice to get a notice, but I'd rather have the green card with no notice than a notice with no green card.
