Elena had her interview earlier today, I received the phone call at 4:30 am not really the way I like to be aroused from sleep. The interview went fine except the consular officer requested a letter from me stating my knowledge of a medical condition that is no longer an issue. Surgery 2 years ago and she has been fine since. They also want a letter from her doctor saying everything is ok. The consular officer also told her that the US govt wont pay for treatment in the future if it is needed and my health insurance wont cover it. There is nothing in the paperwork that states who my health insurance is through and unless he has my policy in his hands how would he know what is covered and what is not. Actually my insurance will cover her no matter what. I was wondering if anyone else ran into a similar issue.

Also they took her passport and papers and said they would send the visa as soon as we sent the appropriate letters, so this is a very good day but it doesnt feel that way just yet.

This sounds like normal AR for needing more information. Once she submits the requested documentation they will issue the visa. Congratulations on your approval.

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

I would send an email to the embassy in Moscow explaining that you are completely aware of her prior medical condition. Include the case number so that they can match it to her file. Push her to get the doctors letter and then the translation and get it to the embassy ASAP. You could have your sweetie with you in a couple of weeks and then everything that has happened will be just past bad news. Woo Hoo! It is time to celebrate. This is just a little bump in the road and soon you will both be laughing about it.

The consular officer was just giving out the standard line about pre-existing conditions from most insurance companies and also that her medical condition will not be paid for by some government program. This is probably just standard stuff and not much to worry about. If your insurance will cover her for any pre-existing conditions, that's great. Most insurances won't.

Congratulations, you are going to have a very special present for Christmas this year.
