I believe in justice, but using common since is just as important!! It seems Ryan is just doing a rediculous grandstand to try to score some political points in his district. I am proud I am not a democrat, with the likes of Ryan. I don't think this will ever fly. It has already been said that Brazil is one of the top spending tourist countries for USA, and Obama has been making trips there to keep. It is in the news to lift the difficulty of tourist visa's. What an idiot this Tim Ryan must be!! headbonk.gif

Well, it will make no difference for tourist visa, those would still be accepted. They will only ban immigrant visas.

The text of the amendment withholds all funding from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to process any immigration visa request for a Brazilian national.

I don't know what this is about, and I don't want to delve into the details of the cuckoory, but even if it were true, even it passed (which it won't), even if it was all above board, it wouldn't have an affect. USCIS uses fees collected by the people to fund their operation. Withholding funding makes no difference because they don't get much funding.

So please everyone, calm down :)

here is the bill.

SEC. 2. SUSPENSION OF VISAS FOR BRAZILIANS UNTIL BRAZIL AMENDS ITS LAWS TO REMOVE THE PROHIBITION ON EXTRADITION OF NATIONALS OF BRAZIL TO OTHER COUNTRIES.

(a) Suspension of Visa Issuance- Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no immigrant or nonimmigrant visa may be issued to a citizen, subject, national, or resident of Brazil until the President of the United States determines and certifies to the Congress that the Government of Brazil has amended its laws to remove the prohibition on extradition of nationals of Brazil to other countries.

(b) Waiver- The President may waive the application of subsection (a) on a case-by-case basis if the President determines and certifies to the Congress that it is in the national interests of the United States to do so.

© Effect of Unauthorized Issuance- Any visa issued in violation of this subsection shall be null and void

Thank God I'm already in America, but that is assuming that this bill won't affect current green card holders like me. Either way it's completely awful and unfair.

If it passes, and I doubt it will, it should only affect visas issued from 2014. I don't know much about american politics, but my fiance said that Tim Ryan probably only wants to draw attention to himself.

All this doesn't make sense to me. Obama recently stated that he wants to strengthen the relationship between both countries. He even talked about removing the requirement for a tourist visa to go from Brazil to USA in 2014.

Just because it passed in a committee doesn't mean it will go anywhere near being picked up, debated, and passed in the House of Representatives (which remember, is still not the end of the line). There are all sorts of crazy bills that are introduced into Congress' stupid little subcommittees but never see the light of day after that. Don't worry all, passing such a bill into legislation is so unlikely.

I'm still all for getting John Carter out of office yes.gif

Also, remember that there will be a senate version of the bill and the versions will need to be reconciled. Beyond that, the president will then have to sign the bill. This is long from being settled.

Having said that, congress critters need to be contacted so that our stance on this issue is known. I will be calling my rep tomorrow about this. I urge all y'all to do the same.

This is the most ridiculous bill I have ever heard of. This guy really has his head up his ###, thats for sure. But in all honesty he is just trying to pull in some votes in his state by showing he will "go to bat" for the little people. I seriously doubt, and hope, that this bill will not pass. IMO this is just one of those ridiculous things that is done for attention and to get someones name circulating. I really hope everyone remembers who NOT to vote for....Tim Ryan (D), ohio.
