Your wife is the one submitting an N-400 for naturalization then?

I don't believe you need to include an explanation letter. From what you stated, it seems that you are an American citizen holding a valid U.S. passport.

If USCIS questions your birthplace, they will ask your wife during the naturalization interview.

I hope this helps you some. Good luck with your journey!

If you were born outside of the US and your father was a US citizen, then you acquired your citizenship through your father... meaning that he should have filed an FS 240 (Correct me if I'm wrong) I think it is called the Report of Birth Abroad. You did not receive your citizenship through birth in the US you received it through your father...

He still received his citizenship by birth. The US recognizes both jus soli and jus sanguinis (right of the soil and right of the blood) as valid means by which someone gains citizenship at birth.

I am not sure how hard this is to understand. Whether it was by being born in the US or by being born of a US citizen it is still citizenship by birth. Both jus soli (right of the soil i.e. being born in a country) AND jus sanguinis (right of the blood i.e. being born of a citizen) are recognized methods of citizenship by BIRTH by the United States government. The OP was not adopted by a US citizen and brought to the US and granted citizenship. The OP was BORN to a US father and therefore was granted automatic citizenship by right of his blood.
