Public-private partnerships have been all the rage for a few decades now. This isn't new.

This isn't a partnership. It's the govt. giving a loan acting as a Bank.

There's a big difference between giving universities research grants (the internet) and giving private corporations (Tesla) loans.

You are correct. The government has resorted to these loans as a means to stop the economy from crumbling.

As a nation we can't afford to let everyone fail because it would generate a domino effect on the economy.

The government can't create jobs but it can prevent joblessness from hastening.

Reading comprehension failing you again? Go back and read what was actually posted but this time also try to grasp it. If you succeed, you come back and we can discuss what I actually said.

Translation--I realized my idiotic position of defending this government boondoggle based on one scenario and have no intelligent reply.

Why? Because you say so? Conservatism seeks to maintain things as they are - i.e. no change. It's the very nature of conservatism. Cost has NOTHING to do with it.

yep u r right, if Obama admin told u and they did it than it has to be right.

Half of the governments function is to in essence act as a quasi bank? Its an economy investor and stimulator. This is as old as the republic itself.

Exactly. It's actually one of the results of privatizing much of what government used to do. A lot of this R&D was done directly by the government in the past. Funny how the very same crowd that now cries about funding private enterprise to do the R&D was at the forefront of all this outsourcing and privatizing.

That's the problem I have. The govt. shouldn't be issuing loans to billionaires We have almost a 17 trillion dollar debt. We should probably worry about that rather than loaning billionaires money.

We should loan it to the guy who has nothing? If you have the ability to pay it back then that's a primary qualification to getting a loan. It's how loans to anyone are suppose to be approved, But go ahead loan a billion to the guy who's broke.

There is no translation - you can't comprehend what you read. That's an issue you need to address for yourself. I haven't made the statement you think I made. That's pretty clear to anyone that is capable of a minimum of K grade reading comprehension. That obviously does not include you. Man, if ignorance is bliss, you must be ecstatic.

I assume you are talking about the Federal Reserve. Where do you come up with half? If half of the government's function is to act as a bank, we have real problems. As far as I can tell, the Federal reserve loans money to banks at various interest rates with the hope that the banks will turn around and loan this money to corporations, individuals, etc. in order to stimulate the economy.

I doubt they are in the business of being venture capitalists.

Pay attention. We shouldn't loan it to anyone. Maybe a loan guarantee is the way to go. But this is idiocy of the govt. loaning unproven businesses money should stop.

What do you think the federal budget does? You think they just approve bills that cost nothing with no dollar amount attached? They appropriate funding for bills and enact laws.

Come on, this is government 101 folks.

That is your statement. You're arguing with yourself.

Posts that begin with 'so...' are always entertaining....
