But at least we got rid of a dictator.

That's for you, GandD. good.gif

Yes, we prop them up, sell them weapons to fight Iran and then when we are tired of them 20 years later we reclassify them as dictators and invade.

Problem freaking solved. :)

Half of the governments function is to in essence act as a quasi bank? Its an economy investor and stimulator. This is as old as the republic itself.

No it's not. If banks could go out confiscate capital from private citizens and redistribute that capital to other citizens at a cost of ninety cents on the dollar, you might have a case.

The funny thing is that the same people who criticize the government from intervening in the economy are the same who blame the government for the price of gas, and unemployment.

Because the government does intervene in the economy. Less intervention, the more the normal market forces will control the economy.

From the preamble to the US Constitution:

  1. To form a more perfect Union,
  2. To establish Justice,
  3. To insure domestic Tranquility,
  4. To provide for the common defense,
  5. To promote the general Welfare, and
  6. To secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterior.

Survey says 5! Tell him what he's won Johnny!

Its as ambiguous as the 2nd amendment agreed...but I'll say lets use it. If it's function isn't to pass a budget and allocate funding then we've got a lot of work to do don't we.

The preamble is not the Constitution, it is a statement of purpose.

"To secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity"

You're late to the party...already noted the typo...but it was appropriate.

The free market...the same idea that brought us the 1929 stock market crash, economic collapse of 2008, sweatshops in 3rd world countries, slavery and indentured servitude. I could go on but what's the point...

Yes, it works so well when we allow the wealthy to figure out the rules for us all.

Its about as free as a North Korean protestor.

and I will point out the lack of Free markets and the Misery in North Korea, as opposed to the capitalist society to the south. You always seem to make our point for us. is that on purpose ?

Remember the internet crawled at 2800 bps...now I connect at 20 mps 20 years later...that's why you build electric cars that go 300 miles.

One step at a time.

If not, why advance any technology?

I think you mean access to the internet for the average person was 2400 Baud. Dial up. The "internet" was actually much faster have no clue what MPS. Male Post menstrual Syndrome maybe.

The reason technology took off is become someone figured out HTML Web Mosiac etc, and it become a viable commercial entity, instead of poking around with Telnet, Archie, Veronica etc.

You really talk about a lot of stuff that you don't know diddly about.

HTML can hardly be credited with the Internet taking off. Programming languages are simple compared to the hardware/protocol innovations designed with the osi model. This is the basics of networking back then, and still today. Govt subsidized btw.

Politely disagree. Are you old enough to remember Prodigy,Delphi and the other online services. The online world was ruled by these dependent online services and of course AOL.

When web mosiac "Netscape"and HTML became popular they were the first to offer access to the "internet". Actually the offered before that but it was limited to USENET, Archie, Veronica etc.

When the web started getting popular, it became commercially viable to start developing digital technologies beyond ISDN

As for the OSI model. I memorized that damn thing to death and back and knew which layer was packet level etc etc. Please do not throw sausage pizza away still haunts me.

Never used that info one time as a Network Engineer.

Bottom line is we both know what really made the web explode---- PORN
