Interview next week - just making sure we have our bases covered. Finally navigated through the confusing CSC visa information site and registered my wife (Canadian citizen) for a Loomis account.

The detail sheet has the following info:

I have a very ugrent questions that I need to get answer ASAP because my interview is next week. I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is sponsoring me to the US. I submitted all my information via email and now I have the interview letter with the scheduled date for next week. Can someone explain why do I need to register and pay the imigration VISA? I have no issue paying but my interview letter does not say anything about this. I am going through the IR/CR1 process. Please help. I am running out of time.

thank you

Kevin

Also, can someone explain what is the prupose of a Loomis account?

Thank you so much,

The purpose of your Loomis account is so that you get your passport back with your visa in it as well as the thick package that says "DO NOT OPEN." This is the package with all of your paperwork from the Consulate in it and will be handed in at your POE.

Are you talking about the $165 immigration fee? If so, this fee is so that you get your GC. Here is the link:http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis /menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=3a2bb75e8109b310VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=fe529c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

Without paying this fee you will not get your GC

Thank you so much for the info. Since I've already paid the Immigration VISA processing fee ($230) then I am assuming the Immigration Fee is the same thing that's why they sent me the letter for Visa Interview. It starting to make sense now. As for the Loomis, do they keep my Canadian Passport after the VISA interview?

Btw what does GC mean?

Green card.

You pay the $230 immigrant visa fee to the NVC. After your visa is approved and you get it back, you pay a $165 New Immigrant fee which is the fee for the green card production. Essentially it's the "green card fee." YOu have a few options with that, pay it before you leave and about a month after you enter the USA you will receive it OR wait to pay it and they'll send you a letter reminding you to pay it about a month after POE and you'll get it in a week or two. Up to you. You have a year to pay the fee because your visa becomes a temporary green card after it's endorsed at the POE.

So they are two different fees you will need to pay. The IV fee was to the NVC. The NIF will be to the USCIS via the ELIS website. You'll get a sheet of paper with your passport and do not open package that explains how to pay it.

Loomis is DHL. It's a courier service that they use in Canada (and other parts of the world) to courier your passport and package back to you after your interview. It can take 1 day to several weeks to get your passport and package. You'll need to pick it up from a DHL/Loomis location. You will not be allowed in the consulate if you have not signed up for Loomis and bring the confirmation sheet with you (the one I have attached here further up.)

Thank you everyone for the quick response. I am truly grateful for all your help. I have registered for loomis and obtain the print out. I think I'll wait for the package and then pay the immigation (green card) fee later. Now I am ready for the interview. Wish my luck everyone!!!

You can't pay the new immigrant fee until after you get your visa anyhow ;) So it won't be until after the interview. You have an interview date right?

Best of luck to you!
