Do Trader Joes still sell the 2-buck-chuck? The Charles Shaw wines? We used to get them all the time when we lived in CA and they are actually really good! if you don't mind the ethics, that is!

They also have a more upscale label called Napa River. There's a cab, a merlot, and a chard IIRC. They're "negociant" wines, so it's the excess from places like Jordan, Grgich Hills, etc. A $5 bottle that rivals the $20+ ones. The chard is definately a winner, the cab is not as big as I prefer, but still worth it. Haven't had the merlot, cause I am not drinking any fscking merlot!

The Charles Shaw Beoujalais is not bad!

For Thanksgiving I'd be inclined to push the boat out and slap down an extra $10 or so for some nicer plonk.

I was just wondering if they still sold it. I don't know ####### about wine, apparently if I drink the $2 plonk. Wasn't exactly a recommendation!

My new favorite wine is Mueller Thurgau (sp)

If you like Riesling or Gewurtz.....you'll like this.

Not the boundaries drawn on maps,

With the names of powerful men.

That's all I've wanted -

To walk in such a place with you,

On an earth without maps."

I didn't read through the entire thread, so I don't know if this has been already mentioned, but you might want to try checking out Wine Spectator as they have just about everything you've ever wanted to know about wine and more. :)

Hi...Just saw your post, and hope it's not too late to suggest a nice wine.

It's from Cali and called Smoking Loon. They make a lovely pinot grigio, chardonnay, and a sauvignon blanc.

For reds, they do a fine Pinot Noir, a great merlot, and my very favourite-Cabernet Sauvignon !

It'll run about $10-13 a bottle and it goes down a treat !!!
