A little cooking help from my Brasilian friends

Hey everyone,

My fiancee and I are trying to gather up the ingredients to making a desert her Aunt makes over there in Brasil. She needs to get some "Creme de Leite" and for the life of me, I can not find the equiv. of what that would be here in the US. Or do they sell this stuff in the US?

I know it translates into Cream of Milk... but I'm clueless about cooking... help please

Is the milk sweet and thick?

If so it would be condensed milk

If it's thin and bland it's evaporated milk

If it's anything else I don't know

i would say it's condensed milk. you can find it now, because of the holidays, you use it in pumpkin pie. Carnation is a brand that makes condensed milk. it's in a can...it's liquid.

If what you're looking for is called Creme de Leite in portuguese, then you're looking for table cream.

Condensed Milk is called Leite Condensado in portuguese, not Creme de Leite.

If what you're looking for is called Creme de Leite in portuguese, then you're looking for table cream.

Condensed Milk is called Leite Condensado in portuguese, not Creme de Leite.

Creme de leite is table cream and usually you'll find it in the mexican section of the grocery, with the sweetened condensed milk (leite condensado) and both are from Nestlé just like we have in Brasil... Just the same...

PS (I forgot to say: if she needs "creme de leite fresco" (fresh table cream), she should try HEAVY CREAM in the fridge of the grocery with the dairy: sour cream, milk, butter, etc...

Indeed, I tried to find in other supermarkets but nothing and today we went to Walmart and finally I found it just like Laura said with the latin food same brand (Nestlé) and it's called table cream.

Whipping cream is our "chantilly" (obs: "chantilly" is made of heavy cream = creme de leite fresco)

chantilly = whipped cream

creme de leite = sour cream/ table cream

creme de leite fresco = heavy cream

leite condensado = sweetened condensed milk

For the brazilians, you will find evaporated milk and wonder if you can use it to substitute table cream, you can't. But if you want to make a pasta with cream you can indeed use the evaporated milk with a bit of flour to thicken it. Evaporated milk is way cheaper than table cream.

creme de leite = sour cream/ table cream

"Creme de leite" is never sour cream! Sour cream is just our "creme azedo", which is not too popular in Brasil.

Creme de leite is just one of the two: or the version in the can (table cream), or the fresh one called heavy cream...

I hope nobody comes here and says that "requeijão" is cream cheese!!! LOL!!!

cream cheese is the same cream cheese we have in Brazil written in good old english . Requeijão I don't know what it is, I would love to find Catupiry because I LOVE it!

I've bought sour cream, whipped cream, cream cheese and table cream, so I can say for sure, creme de leite is table cream Nestlé that says Media Crema in spanish, not any of the others...

We found some in our grocery store as well, same as the picture above. Table Cream... never had heard of it before.
