Just because I'm not a Republican, doesn't automatically mean I'm a liberal.

No, but your constant ranting against anything that isn't liberal shows that you are a liberal. And that's okay.

I argue that simply giving people money for doing nothing for long periods of time is actually hurting that person rather than helping them. I agree with you that their should be a safety net for people that fall on hard times. That safety net should come with conditions. Conditions that will help them be self sufficient in the future so that they wont have to go on the dole again. Either getting some training or doing some kind of work that is beneficial to society as a whole.

Sitting around generating future welfare recipients while watching Jerry Springer re-runs should not be considered "getting back on your feet"

I never advocated giving people money for nothing. I've never even thought that.

I think the idea in your mind of what a none Republican wants in a social program is your own creation. I believe in work...nothings free.

if you guys are going to start in on welfare, please bring your actual experience and not your hearsay to the table.

I was on welfare as a child for a year or so. Also, my sister has been on perpetual govt. assistance while having 5 children AND getting the govt. to pay her with not only public assistance but something called an Earned Income Tax Credit from the IRS. Do I qualify?

Ranting against bad ideas that won't work doesn't make you anything.

So far from your posts you haven't advocated anything. You've just gone on rant after rant about how much you hate Republicans. Stake out a position and then maybe somebody will give you an intelligent response. If you're just going to spew bull$hit, don't be surprised when that's what you get in return.

Actually, all your ranting has made you something. And the TOS prevents me from saying anything more.

if you want to talk about welfare reform honestly, and fix the system so it benefits those who are using the system correctly - why only go on and on about the percentage that abuse the system?

Well I just go by my personal experiences. Sorry. I probably would've been a save the world Democrat if I hadn't seen how people abuse the system most of my life.

You asked for actual experience. I gave that to you. Sorry if it wasn't the response you wanted.

too bad. you sound like you suffer from the same sort of assumptions as nature boy. there's nothing that can be done about being bitter over all the 'benefits' of being poor.

i've been 'lucky' enough to know people who have received welfare to better their family's lives. contrary to popular belief there is no 'inbetween'. once you earn (or receive one lowly child support payment) that puts you over the poverty limit - benefits gone. and that's why it's so hard to get off welfare and stay off. there is no allowance for an interim.

Still making me pay on that one huh?

i don't know what you're talking about. but since you brought it up, yes. ranting33va.gif

I guess you didn't read my posts. That or you just cherry picked pieces of them. I never said do away with welfare or govt. assistance. I said make sure that people don't use it as a means for lifetime income. And trust me there's many ways to ensure that you never go over that poverty limit line. At least when it comes to what the govt. knows about anyway.

but the abusers are not the majority of recipients. and anyone who wants to indefinitely live under the poverty line simply because they do not want to work - probably couldn't maintain in the workforce to begin with.
