You know, there are people in the GOP that believe public assistance hinders the impoverished from being self reliant. This is not an evil idea so much as a difference of opinion. I doubt many of our conservative posters on this board belong to the 1% so I don't buy that all conservatives are the wealthy elite. They think aid is a crutch and that people should be responsible for themselves.

I think you and I believe assistance can help prop people up and hopefully allow them to become productive citizens. That still doesn't make the other guys evil. Try not to focus on the Shawn Hannity's and Rush Limbaugh's of the world. They're just in it for the money.

I think you and I believe assistance can help prop people up and hopefully allow them to become productive citizens. That still doesn't make the other guys evil. Try not to focus on the Shawn Hannity's and Rush Limbaugh's of the world. They're just in it for the money.

I agree. It also keeps them from being warehoused in federal prisons, committing crimes to survive and educates their children and potentially stops the cycle of poverty. All for less than the criminal justice system cost over a lifetime of one person. Its common sense, not charity.
