I filed my N600 for my son a couple months ago. If I want to apply for a passport in the meantime, I have to send in his green card.

What if DoS does not return the green card and I need it to hand in to USCIS in order to get the CoC?

It sounds like sometimes they return it and sometimes they don't... I wonder what we would do if they do NOT return the green card and then USCIS asks for it.

CR1 / CR2 Visa:

(Day 1) 12/16/11: I-130 Application sent

(Day 283) 09/24/12: Interview at US Consulate – Approved!

(Day 287) 09/28/12: Visa Received & Immediately entered US using Visa

(Day 290) 10/01/12: Social Security Card sent automatically

Removal of Conditions CR1 / CR2
(Day 1) 07/28/14: Application sent.
(Day 135) 12/10/14: ROC Approved!
(Day 143) 12/18/14: 10 year GC received (IR1 / IR2)

Naturalization:
(Day 1) 06/30/15: Application sent.
(Day 210) 01/26/16: Interview and Oath Ceremony. DONE!

***Son and I became US Citizens 01/26/16***

(Day 1) 01/27/16: Applied for my U.S. Passport
(Day 14) 02/10/16: Passport Book & Cert of Naturalization received

(Day 1) 03/16/16: Applied for U.S. Passport for son

(Day 22) 04/07/16: Passport book and original docs received...(Card rec'd 04/16/16)

N-600 for child age 9
(Day 1) 01/27/16: Application sent

(Day 12) 02/08/16: NOA received

(Day 23) 02/19/16: Case received at local office

(Day 88) 04/23/16: In line for oath scheduling *Called USCIS to inquire about why there is an oath required for a child under 14. They sent a service request to the field office.

(Day 95) 04/30/16: Received letter from field office to say no oath necessary and that they would mail the certificate.
(Day 106) 05/11/16: Cert of Citizenship received by registered mail (they never sent tracking. case status was never updated either)

It's sad that the Soc. Sec. agent didn't even know the law. Obviously US citizenship is not required for SSN.

Apply at a passport center, not a mail in center. This way you can talk to DOS before and if they keep the green card.

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...

Kind a similar problem we are facing right now and we keep looking the best solution of this... My sister is a green card holder . When is was pregnant from his boyfriend she went back here in the Philippines and gave birth but boyfriend acknowledged in the birth certificate that he is the father ... My sister went back to us without the baby and got marry to the father of the baby.. Until now the baby is with us... Question is can my sister come back here in Philippines and do the same process you did?? Or they can get cbrc? Or they need to file visa for the baby??

She can not do the same, since she returned to the US without the child. The further process depends if the father is a USC.

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...

There is no cbrc only a CRBA. The mother can file it.

Either parent can file. But you need to provide evidence that the US-citizen parent (the father in this case) was physically present in the US (any time before the birth of the child) for a total of 5 years, including 2 years after he turned 14; getting such evidence usually requires the father's help. Also, in this case since it's birth out of wedlock to a US citizen father, the father also needs to be there to sign a few things. So basically the father needs to be there to apply.

I'm confused you said if you are a year aboard you must apply for a green card to enter America?? USC don't have to go threw that right ?? I was born and spent my whole life in America and I'm currently pregnant aboard I don't want to give birth here just hoping we can get everything we need and processed at the embassy before our baby comes. Maybe I misunderstood your comment abt the green card but can you please explain

I'm confused you said if you are a year aboard you must apply for a green card to enter America?? USC don't have to go threw that right ?? I was born and spent my whole life in America and I'm currently pregnant aboard I don't want to give birth here just hoping we can get everything we need and processed at the embassy before our baby comes. Maybe I misunderstood your comment abt the green card but can you please explain

If you are a US citizen, you can do the CRBA at the embassy/consulate provided you satisfy all the conditions.

Well in cases where they reject CRBA for lack of evidence or whatever reason, the other way for the baby to enter USA is with a green card (provided certain conditions are met) and thats what the OP explained in this thread.

The baby enters with a green card but becomes a citizen if they satisfy the criteria set forth in CCA.
