I'm hear on a K1 Visa me and my lovely wife got married at the end of August and i have applied for AOS, EAD and AP, and have had my biometrics for AOS and EAD which approved.

Today out of the blue i get a letter from "Selective Serviec System" saying "Here's you Official Registration Acknowledgement Card" to join the military.

On the back it says:

"FOR NONIMMIGRANTS: If you are on a valid visa and believe that you were registered in error, send this card and a copy of your I-94 to: Selective Service System, P.O. Box 94638, Palatine, IL 60094-4638."

but Im an Immigrant now i'm applying for AOS right?

Now i just did a quick google and found on immigration.com that its something you're automatically signed up for when you apply for AOS, is this true?

What do i do now? Is this IF I wanted to Enlist, I could? Do i just hold on to the acknowledgment card?

Help?

I believe once you have permanant resident alien status you are supposed to register with selective service.

http://www.sss.gov is their Website

Ok the card i got is an acknowledgment of me signing up, I guess it happened with my AOS.

I just read another thread where someone else had the same thing! I never thought i'd say this but i can't wait till i'm 26! 2.5 more years to go! My wife also pointed out its really only till 2008 cuz thats when Bush is out of office :P TBH I can't wait!

Rep. Charles Rangle wants to introduce a bill to start the draft and he is a Democrat and you may have heard they now control the Congress.

Yeah I read that on hear! I didn't necessarily mean I wanted to put him in power just some other than Bush, that doesn't pull this country into issues like Iraq. IMO i feel that the US has its own domestic issues to concerntrate on, as with most other countries including the UK.

Tjhat's a very interesting rule, you can't vote as a LPR, but you can be drafted. Way too funny.

Yes, you are automatically registered when the AOS is submitted and you just hold onto the acknowledgment card (although I don't know if it has any pertinence if you want to enlist).

Rep. Charles Rangle wants to introduce a bill to start the draft and he is a Democrat and you may have heard they now control the Congress.

Yeah, and if you knew anything about politics you'd know that Rangle's bill is nothing to do with actually introducing a draft, and everything about protesting the war. He doesn't actually want the bill to pass, he doesn't want a draft. He does this all the time, see this quote from him in 2003 when a previous version of the bill was introduced:

"I truly believe that those who make the decision and those who support the United States going into war would feel more readily the pain that's involved, the sacrifice that's involved, if they thought that the fighting force would include the affluent and those who historically have avoided this great responsibility," Rangel said.

"Those who love this country have a patriotic obligation to defend this country," Rangel said. "For those who say the poor fight better, I say give the rich a chance."

This is all about making a point, and nothing to do with actually bring back the draft. Its all to do with the fact that rich white guys are sending poor white kids to war, while their family members don't serve. I.e. maybe if it were their sons going off to get killed, perhaps they'd think twice about risking their lives.
