I was wondering, my father-in-law will be a joint sponsor again, for the AOS, but we still have his letter of employment dated August, 2006 that wasn't asked for in the interview at the consulate. Is that ok to send with my AOS instead of getting a new one? Or is it already outdated?

Does the I-864 need to be notarized?

You will need an updated work letter and I did notarize my copies.

Laura,

The August letter may be OK for sending with the I-485 - you may or may not get an RFE for something more current.

If you get an interview you will want an updated letter current at that time.

If a send in a new one now then I won't need yet a new one for the interview, right?

Also, on this new form, it has a box to check that you filed tax returns for the past 3 years, except that my husband was a student up until last year and dependant on his dad, thus he only has one tax return ever filed. Do I leave all of it blank or do I check the box anyway? (we'll be using his dad as a co-sponsor)

You probably will need a new letter for the interview - the supporting documentation needs to be current. But maybe having current pay statements will be adequate.

And about those tax returns I just check the first box and only put info about last year's tax?
