Would that mean they don't have to pay taxes?

FL doesn't have a state tax AFAIK. They would still have to pay sales tax, obviously. And they're part of the US so clearly they get no exemption from filing their 1040s.

If taxpayer funds go into this town, then they can not constitutionally limit the state to just people of a certain creed. Nor can they impose rules that violate the constitutional rights of citizens.

What if it was all volunteer. Working for the church, they got no pay and bought nothing. They shared B)

From what I read from the article though... your rights aren't being trampled on... what kinds of businesses and what they offer/sell/etc are what's going to be limited. If a priest wanted to go over to the next town to rent a copy of Altar boys 10, and bring it back and watch it, nothing the town could do, unless those boys in the movie were under 18.

They can't really stop you from sinning. People still would have free will. He might get a ticket, though. :P

Like they can sustain themselves down there in Florida? No roads to and from the place, no power lines, no cable, no telephone lines, no cell phone signals. No emergency services, no hospitals, etc, etc.? Get real, will ya'? :P

Agreed. As long as the town doesn't accept taxpayer funds, that is certainly true. However, if they do (and I am pretty sure they will) then this will be struck down as unconstitutional. Remember, Roe v Wade prohibits local governments from banning abortion. Abortion is a guaranteed constituitional right as long as Roe v Wade stands. You can ban the procedure in a privately run town, but not in a public one.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Cool. I hear that in the not too distant future they'll be looking for a new use for Gitmo (seems that we're busy expanding prison capacity in Afghanistan - relocation appears imminent). Moving onto that lil island will get them away from everyone else. For sure...

I can't believe anyone thinks this is ok! If you can't see why it's not ok, then I can't explain it to you.

However, I daresay that Ace will be one of the first people moving in, buying up a prime bit of real estate and adopting all those babies from South Dakota.

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Personal attacks are uncalled for  If you feel so strongly, why can't you explain. I have not honestly formed an opinion. I am just playing the devil's advocate  I love to get a rise out of you!

This reminds me of a story I saw lately (maybe on vj...) about some "gated community" in either co, or ut... well, in the brochure for this place was, well one of the "selling points" was along the lines of "(such and such community) boasts a significantly lower than state average concentration of african americans". Just reminds me of it, that's all.

Oh, trust me Ace, it wasn't an attack. If it was, you'd have known about it. It was merely an observation based on your previous postings ;)

I just think that if people really can't see a problem with allowing segregation of society and only allowing people to live in an area if they're deemed "morally acceptable" then they lack any sense of perspective or foresight. I can't solve that problem for them, and I pity them.

So whaddya gonna do? Hold a gun to their heads and make them integrate? Think about it.
