I was just wondering in case my current sponsor (my mom) isnt going to be able to help me for some reason who is allowed to be a sponsor?

Do they have to reside with you? Or be related to you?

Thanks for the advice!

Who is immigrating? Who is the petitioner? The petitioner must always be a sponsor, even if their income is not sufficient. A joint sponsor can be anyone as long as they are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and live in the U.S. They do not have to be related to the immigrant.

My to-be husband is already here . He came on a touristic visa and we just decided to get married.

I am the petitioner and a USC.

So I need to file an I864 and just say that my income is nothing..

Do I need to have a joint sponsor or can they just file the I864 as well?

Sorry I'm really confused on this part about who files which papers!

Yes, you need a joint sponsor, and they also fill out an I-864.

Newact thank you for replying!

I was asking because I wasnt sure if my joint sponsor needs to fill out the I864a... I think that just might be if I'm combining my income with theirs- which I'm not.

Does my husband need to fill one out as well?

sorry if my questions seem dumb- I'm just double checking and doing this on my own

I appreciate your help!

You: I-864

Sponsor: I-864 of their own. Anyone US Citizen or LPR can be a co-sponsor. Co-sponsor qualifies on their own.

I-864A is only for combining incomes with people who live with you and are related to you, like if you lived with a brother or something.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Sorry for all the questions.

Okay got it!

Just a quick question on I864A- Im living at home with my mom right now and she might be a sponsor. could she still just do the I864 since I have no real income anyways and my husband and I will be moving out in 6months probably. Or is it necessary for her to do I864A since I live with her?

It is better for her to do I-864.
