Ok,

We are beginning to price flights in to JFK in the hopes of them giving me the EAD stamp. In so doing I had a thought ... has anyone ever heard of them NOT doing this on the weekend? I am just not sure what the procedure is on Customs side and if they have to make phone calls to verify things, would me flying in on a weekend mess things up?

Now, all instinct says that this is a stupid question, but I just want to be 100% sure before shelling out the money for a wasted flight.

They only process K-1 visa holders between the hours of 9:45am and a quarter to 10 each morning on Mondays, Wednesdays and the third Thursday of the month....... :D

Seruiously, They provide the same full range of services during all operating hours.

You don't need EAD stamp to get SS number from the SSA, if that is all you want the stamp for. The social security considers all K-1 visa holders to be work authorized until the expiration of the I-94 Doc.

Also JFK can discontinue that practice at any time.

SSA K-1 FAQ

thanks YuandDan. No.. I want the stamp to work. Literature from the SS offices tend to say that having a K1 is your EAD and that all you need is the SSN. However, I am yet to find someone who has been hired this way. As such, I am going to play it safe and get the stamp if I can. And yes, I am aware that JFK may be discontinuing this procedure.

Now.. that being said.. if you know somone who has been hired to work without the EAD -- by all means PLEASE let me know!

Yup, instinct would have served you well......:lol:

My fiance came in on a Sunday and received his. The only minor glitch was the immi officer didn't know how to process the EAD but he called out to other officers to see if someone else did. And one did.

I have never heard of anyone being refused the stamp.

And I think the discontinuing of the stamp might be a rumor.
