I live in Connecticut and they will allow an immigrant to drive up to 1 year with an International Driver's License. I called the DMV today and was told that this type of license is a translation of their current drivers license.

Does anyone know where in Haiti one can get this? Has anyone gotten one before?

If possible, I'd like my fiancee to have one when he comes.

Thanks for your help!

I live in CT too and looked into that type of license... when O contacted DGI in Haiti about it they told him a different name for that type of license... I will ask him in the morning and give you more info...

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

No idea, but you're probably as well to just get a new license in Connecticut if you don't want to be paying hire insurance premiums.

He had to get the license plus a "Récépissé" from DGI... but After looking at everything, O thinks he just wants to take the learner's permit from CT and then take the driving test once he's allowed.

It seems like you may be able to drive with your Haiti passport temporarily as long as you have your passport with you.

Hi :) You posted this long time ago but if you by any chance check VJ I would appreciate your help. I am looking at getting learner's permit in CT, but I have driver's license from my home country - do you by any chance know if you still have to take that road safety courses? Thank you :) I hope your husband obtained his driver's license pretty fast. :)

I doubt he'll be able to use it here. And I think it he already has a driver's license from Haiti, it should be easy for him to get one here since he already knows how to drive. He'll just have to learn the sign and rules because it's completely different in Haiti.
