Hello I am so new at this thank god a friend sent me to this site. I hope to find out with this topic if anyone has any experiance with Brian Wright, Siam, or any other Law Offices. I am not looking for the cheapest, am looking for fair, honest, quick, and someone that my beautiful fiancee can work with. Any information would be helpful. I am willing and able to do the paperwork myself if hiring a lawyer is just not worth it.. I just want this to go as quickly and smooth as possiable. Thanks for your input.

In my opinion these processes are too easy to justify hiring a lawyer. There are enough guides on here and other sites to walk you through each stepof the process. Plus, you'll have PLENTY of time between each step to figure out the next step.

Personally I don't think a lawyer is worth it... there's no need to add the extra fees to hire one on top of what the K1 process will already cost you. If you're willing to take the time to prepare a thorough application yourself then that's the way to go. Follow the guides on this site and you'll be fine. Despite what they may say, a lawyer will not speed up the actual process, you won't get an approval any quicker than someone who filed a complete application themselves. Just be sure to pay attention to the details so that you don't leave anything out and end up with an RFE!

The process is NOT difficult. A bit confusing at times, but not difficult. It does require some time. My advice is....If you have more money then time. Go ahead and hire a service. If you have the time, you can get all the help you need here at VJ and save a bunch of money.

Some on this site have reported RFE's and other problems even with using a service. A service can not get you a Visa faster then doing it yourself. The process needs to play out either way you do it.

100% agree with what Slowlyman says. I made the mistake of hiring a lawyer. It slowed my case down by 3 months minimum. Hiring a lawyer will slow down your processing. It is unavoidable. You must send the lawyer information and the lawyer will send it to USCIS vs. you sending it directly to USCIS. That by itself is a delay. Also, a lawyer in this type of immigration case is merely filling out blank forms with the information you have provided. You actually do all the legwork, not the lawyer.

My lawyer had no clue about the NVC process for an IR-1/CR-1 visa. I had to correct him at every step with information I learned here on VJ. Basically I spent $1800 to delay my wife's arrival in to the U.S. by 3 months. Not a very good deal in my book.

If I understand the question, the poster is looking for a local attorney in Thailand to assist his fiancee, not necessarily to assist him with filling out the forms from his end. I understand other posters pointing out that the forms are easy to fill out, but this ignores the fact that there are numerous documents and hoops to jump through in Thailand that I was unsure I would be able to assist her with nor did I want to spend much of our time discussing bureaucratic issues rather than deepening our relationship.

So faced with the same situation when we decided to apply for a fiancee visa we ended up deciding to hire Brian Wright of USA Immigration. As you can see from our timeline there were no holdups in our process, and I believe we both benefited from having a local resource for Jamnan to speak with and assist with her end of the paperwork. We can recommend him and his staff as competent and responsive both to myself and jamnan and I found their cost for this service to be about the same as a round-trip airline ticket, which I consider to be a reasonable cost to have someone on the ground.

*** Thread moved from K-1 Process forum to the Thailand regional subforum, per the reasoning in the post just above. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I can't imagine going through this without the assistance of Brian Wright's staff, not just for me, but for my wife. They talk to her and make her comfortable every step of the way, warn us about pit falls, and ensure we are prepared. I'm sure this is doable yourself and this forum is a great resource (I'm new here), but for me Brian's team has been worth every penny, even if they are only providing peace of mind to both of us.

Then you made the right choice for you.

If you can, leave a full review of your experience with Brian Wright after everything is done. People are always looking for good / honest referrals.
