I applied for my SSN on the 20th March but heard nothing for 6 weeks. Took a visit to my local office after phone calls for me no where & they said the Dept of State was holding my SSN but they didn't know why! We gave them our marriage licence to change my name Incase that was the issue but still nothing. My husband just called again and apparently I won't get it till I complete AOS! They wouldn't even take my name to check me in the system!

Does anyone have any ideas! I'm so confused and angry :(

Some people also had an issue when they applied for a SSN with their married name. You are known in the CBP system by your name on your K-1 visa, which is your maiden name. It is easier to apply with the maiden name first, and go back to the SSA office later with your EAD/green card to update your name.

Have you tried calling DOS to confirm this so called "hold" they have? Seems pretty stupid to do this to someone who needs it to work etc.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

I applied in my maiden name then when I heard nothing we went to the office and they told me DoS were holding it so we asked them to update it with my married name in case that was the issue but nothing. My husband called the main Social secruity number, they transferred him to USCIS who told him to ring DoS who were all unhelpful and none of them even wanted my name to check! I don't know what to do!
