Aos is quite simple, similar to k1...just a piece of advice..when you get here, before you get married, go to ssa and apply for ssn in your maiden name, then get married and go to ssa again to change your name on it (if you are going to change your name). I know it's a lot of hassle, but if you apply for ssn in your married name, it might take some time till they find you in the system, cause they'll have you in their database with your maiden name (the name you used to enter the US). Also, this process with ssn (apply for one, change your name) must be done in the first 76 days of your entry, otherwise you'll need a USCIS document (like EAD, GC)

ssa? ssn? :-) you lost me :-)

I will start to make some research to see what i have to do once i get there, and useful advices like yours helps very much. Thanks for that.

Applying for ssa and ssn has a fee?

For how long are you waiting for your AOS?

Oh, sorry, my bad!

SSA is the Social Security Administration(where you go to apply for a SSN) and SSN is the Social Security Number. http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/%C2'>

SSN is sort of similar to the romanian CNP. Applying for SSN is free.

Well, I've sent my AOS paperwork at the end of February, so I haven't been waiting for long. I am waiting now for the local office to schedule the interview.
