As I already posted, Bank of America transferred my credit score from Deutsche Bank anf gave me a credit card with a high limit right away. I strongly recommend to all of you who had bank accounts with banks who cooperate with Bank of America to try it there! It was so easy - went to apply and three days later got my visa card, even with 6 months 0% APR.

I also got rejected from Capital One and major stores. It took a secured credit card from National City to start establishing my own credit history. After a few months I applied for a Macy's charge card, for which I was amazingly approved, now I also have Capital One. It takes time and patience, but I believe the best way is to open a secured credit card.

check out www.creditboards.com It is a credit discussion board with a wealth of information. A few suggestions are often Orchard Bank, Merrick Bank, and Patelco credit cards as they seem to cater to low score/no credit individuals.

Also, just by adding your wife/fiance(e) to an existing credit card that you may have will provide a link to a good credit history. Make sure it is Joint, not all credit cards report credit history if only an authorized user (some do, depends). FICO credit scoring often needs at least 6 months of credit history, so the main rejection for new immigrants is that they have no U.S. credit history, regardless of their home country's credit situation.

Best steps are:

1) Add spouse to credit card account as authorized user (check with the card issuer to see if they report it as a joint account)-this will help with history trusted that a SS# has been provided.

2) Apply for low balance cards mentioned above.

3) Be patient, it takes time to build up a credit history, 6 months is a good waiting period to establish oneself upon first entering the country.
