Hello guys,

As i have posted before, the CO asked me for a sponsor because the one i had didn't make enough so, Could someone that is retired and having SSI but gets enough to sponsor me, sponsor me ?

Would the embassy accept that?

I only need an advice. Thanks

Good luck

You should wait a day or two to get answers, not 15 minutes :)

If the sponsor can proof the income, it should be ok.

Could they deny the whole visa if they didn't accept it or they would ask me they didn't accept it and to get another one ?

Good luck

They would usually give you a second chnace and 30 days or so to submit a new co-sponsor. If there IS someone with a regular income, they would definitely prefer that, especially if the SSI income is close to the poverty line.

But they gave me a year to get a sponsor, are you sure about this 30 days thing.

No its not close to the poverty line.

Good luck

Read this post about SSI as income for an affidavit of support.

Q: Can a petitioner's or joint sponsor's SSI benefits be counted as income?

A: No. SSI benefits cannot be considered when computing the sufficiency of the I-864 (A sufficient I-864 is one that meets the minimum income requirement).

Q: Can disability benefits be considered as income?
A: Yes.

Q: Can Social Security Benefits (not SSI) be considered as income?
A: Yes.

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

Looks like you got your answer above. And no, they are unlikely to give you a second year if this sponsor is not accepted.

My father is retired and we were approved with his joint sponsorship. His pension met the requirements and they were satisfied with that. We submitted his tax returns for the last three years and a document showing his income for 2013. I have heard though it depends on the country... Good luck.

August 2008 - met when we were both living in England

February 2009 - began dating

May 28, 2011 - got engaged

August 5, 2011 - got married (in England)

September 29, 2011 - moved to Mexico

VISA PROCESS:

December 3, 2012 - sent I-130 to Mexico City (DCF)

December 6, 2012 - I-130 approved

December 14, 2012 - NVC case number assigned and instruction letter sent from Juarez Consulate but we NEVER received it

March 4, 2013 - called to check about our case and received our NVC case number and Invoice number

March 9, 2013 - submitted DS-260 online

April 17, 2013 - interview date - visa approved!!!

July 11, 2013 - POE: entered US through Dallas, TX

July 22, 2013 - Social Security Card delivered

August 22, 2013 - Green Card delivered
