decided to call the USCIS today after waiting 3 months or so. the customer representative was giving me the same info that i saw online so i had her transfer me to Tier 2. got through after waiting about 15 minutes. she said that they delivered my file to my local field office in New York on the 26th of March.

and that was it. i guess ill have to contact my local field office for further information? or should i just leave it at that?

Told ya! This is actually good news. Now you can be a little more hands on with your petition - you can contact the local office, make an infopass to go in person and ask questions (if you'd like) and look up specific information on how long petitions are taking to get approved through your local office on the USCIS website.

infopass...im in south africa with my wife at the moment. So infopass wont work now. Only the applicant can go for infopass?

I tried looking at process times for ny field office but they dont have form i130.

Uuuuff, then you could be in a bit of trouble. Is there any reason why you didn't put your foreign address on the I-130 instead of the American one? Or are you just visiting? Because there's a small possibility the local office could call you (the USC) in for an interview, in which case you'd have to fly back to the USA to attend it or your petition would be denied.

And yes, at this point only the USC petitioner can go in for an infopass or call USCIS, unless you have a lawyer as your legal representative.

Oh, well if you're just visiting it'll be okay. There is no guarantee you'll be called in for a USCIS interview, but sometimes local offices call in the USC to ask a few questions before approving the petition. Don't worry about it - you'll probably never hear anything about that.
