Issue with names on documents and evidence.

Hi,

I have a quick question.

My husband has name Christopher J. Groh. But he almost always uses Chris J. Groh or Chris Groh.

We have been trying to get all the documents under the name Christopher but it is just getting too much.

We have on lease and car policy and card as Chris J. Groh. I wanted to know if we can submit half the documents and ALL THE FORMS as Christopher J. Groh

half the documents as Chris J. Groh?

We can list the other name under 'other used names'. But it is not a legal name or anything. Do we need to consult with lawyer for that?

Or can we list that name?

Thank you in advance,

MCG

i think u should have a uniform name on all the documents u submit and list chris j grog as the alias. u have to understand that chris and christopher are both different names, i have a friend called chris and thats his legal name not christopher. so try and get a new lease agreement, this shouldnt be a problem so far u have a passport of birth certificate to show all the companies. well i dont see a need for a lawyer but ur always free to seek a professional advice.

My husband had the same issue. We filed the forms under his legal name and write down the other names on "other names used". However, to tie up the loose ends and to avoid problems, our lawyer advised him to do a legal name change to what he commonly uses, which we did.

I'd say write it as Christopher J. Groh, list his other names under other names used. As for the legal name change, I do not know if it is absolutely necessary, but we did not want to risk confusion and he did not want to keep his legal name anyway, so we did it. Hope that helps!

What name is written on his passport ? visa ? Birth certificate ? - These are the most relevant documents used to establish identity.
If it is Christopher, use Christopher ! That is his legal name.
If driver licence, lease etc.. have Chris, just write down "Chris" for the question: "other names used".

They will understand that Christopher can be simplified as Chris.
However, Chris does not necessarily imply that his full name is Christopher (It could be Christian for Example).
Unless of course if his passport specifies so.

His name on all the legal documents such as passport, birth certificate, driver's license all has Christopher J. Groh. But the lease is under Chris J. Groh. I talked to apartment people for lease and they said they can not change the name on the signed lease because that is how we signed it. Although they did give us the updated document which is not signed by anyone and dated much later lease started with his legal name.

Initially I did not think using a little different name is such a big deal if we listed it under other names used. But the replies have me worried.

I am not sure what to do now. Any advice?
