You have to wait until you have the visa printed in your passport, and passport in hand, but then you can travel as soon as you want. Make sure you pay the 165$ free so that they can make your green card, too.

USC who lived in Manabí, Ecuador with hubby from 2009 - 2013. Hubby became a naturalized American citizen in August 2016. Currently living together in northern Virginia.

Yep, as soon as your passport is back you're ready to go. Also note that once the visa is approved you have to enter the US within a specified time frame, often 6 months :)

one last question....when will you get your passport back? after the interview or wait till the dhl office has your package ready? thanks in advance

It depends on your embassy/consulate. Some offer same day or next day pickup at the embassy itself, while others make you sign up for DHL delivery before the interview. It can range between a day or two, to a few weeks. What country are you petitioning from?

Like I said, it depends on the embassy. You would have to ask other UK folk about that. You pay the 165$ green card fee after the interview - they'll give you a paper explaining where and how. good.gif

It takes about a week to get the passport back. You sign up and pay for courier service at the embassy after your interview. You can pay for the green card fee online through the USCIS site here : http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=3a2bb75e8109b310VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=fe529c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD You will need your A-number to pay, so wait until you get it.
