they do ask trick questions at POE. I got asked those questions ALL the time. So be mindful of your answers at POE.

Thank you thank you!!! With out this advice we wouldnt have known. My fiancee and I need to kick this habit of using the husband/wife term (hubby/wifey) lol for some... But i would have never guessed they would trick u into using the term! Im happy i got this info now so we can prepare n stop using terms that culd lead to a denial!

for those within this thread that do not believe that calling your k-1 beneficiary or sponsor husband or wife, you will be in for a very rude awakening should you do so in front of a cbp officer at the poe or the co at the consulate/embassy. i suggest those of you this applies to take this warning to heart.

So :topic: Yes. They do sometimes google, access your FB (sometimes asking while in interview), they've been known to refer to people by their VJ name, ask you to show your email etc. Sometimes if they REALLY don't believe you (like in a Stokes interview if you have one for AOS) they will ask your favourite sexual position, last time you had sex, what birth control you use, what colour the sheets are, tattoo location and design etc etc... this whole thing CAN, for some, become very uncomfortable.

That's totally bananas. I mean, asking about tattoos sure, but favorite sexual position? That's just absurd. (Not doubting that its happened, just that it's totally uncalled for, there are plenty of ways to check validity).

Yah. When I interviewed for the K1 i offered to show photos (you know, normal ones) and my officer was like "nonono!" and went on to say that some people bring in pics of them actually HAVING sex becaue they think it will prove relationship :S Same with chats. Apparently they bring in the sex-talk chats, unedited, to prove relationship. C.r.e.e.p.y!

A lot of the Stokes interview qns are nuts but they think that legit couples should know the answers... I've tested some of the qns with my husband and I... no idea. I have no idea what colour his toothbrush is because we get new ones so it changes! I could name the tatts but he's got no idea where the dishes are SUPPOSED to go (he'll just put them away and i have to hunt them down ). But USCIS asks you to jump, you ask how high.

Soon though it'll hopefully all be over for me! Filed N-400 in April

How can they know who we are on VJ, I mean no where on my profile do I have our full names or much info at all for them to search the forum and see me profile and know it is ours. do they ask you for your screen name, pass word? as for face book, I'm not worried there, you can look at either of ours and see a year of daily post from both of us aboutour love for each other and things we have done and help each other through.

It all depends on how much you reveal... some people have photos up here, or their real first names, together with beneficiary countries. Others mention their interview is during a certain week, and they are worried about X issue... if a USCIS officer reads that, they can put 2 and 2 together.

Is it crazy/ silly? Yes

Does it happen? Yes.

some people use real names as the display name, or in posts use real names. They can link you via timelines and country of submission. They can look at photos and compare. I don't have anything to hide so I don't mind, but it's just something to keep in mind.

Life since 911 has changed how much the government can and does snoop. EVERY commoniciation that originates from outside the US to inside the US can be looked at. Do they read them all ? No but if you use any key words, or match specific communication patterns and the non US portion is from certain areas it will be looked at closer. Does the monitor care that you are telling your "wifey" that your 10 inch whopper is about to burst, no. But don't ever think that chat is just between the two of you during normal chat connections. The same for private email. Back in my early days there was an interview in SubSarahan denied for a wedding picture that had been sent just before the interview just between the petitioner and the applicant yet the CO handed it to the applicant at the interview and they were denied. There were underlying reasons they may have investigated harder.

There has been a lot of confusion about freedom of speech on this board recently.

Freedom of speech means you will not go to jail for saying the wrong thing. It doesn't mean that you are not responsible for the consequences of your speech.

Immigrants have freedom of speech too. It's just you guys don't know what it means. A married person cannot get a fiance visa, by law.

You don't need to "be careful." You need to tell the truth, or face the consequences of your lying.

Freedom of speech is not a license to lie in front office bearers. There you have to use the legal language they use. Apart from that situations 'freedom of speech means' I can tell whatever I want and not face any legal consequences. Unfortunately there will always be some social and cultural consequences. This forum is a perfect example of that.

Unfortunately the whole concept of VJ Timeline does not meet reasonable privacy standards. The creators should have thought about this before bringing this site to life.

If you fill out your timeline correctly a consular officer can find out your VJ account with nearly 100% accuracy.

He would start by the interview date, then beneficiary country and one more date from your timeline and it will nearly always return exactly one result.

The VJ site should make it easy to separate the timeline from the forum contributions and actively promote that separation. Right now the only way to achieve some level of privacy is to have 2 accounts: one with the timeline and one for forum discussions.

I am sure the site moderators will not like my post because by doing that people may stop bothering about the timeline account, but nowadays we need more sophisticated systems to meet the high demands on privacy.
