It's not natural, IMHO.

In our culture, Yoruba, Oko Afesono = Fiancee, Iyawo Afesono = Fiance, Iyawo, Wofe, Oko = Husband.

I don't see any problem calling your fiance husband, we have legally paper work that said that we are NOT marry, so what is the big deal.. Not everything in Facebook is true.. thats stupid

I suggest that you rethink this process. It's not what we think that matters as much as what the ConOff thinks.

This might sound strange but do they google you at all for background information?

Lets say the U.S. resident has an IMDB page or a Wikipedia page. Does anyone know if they bother with these things?

Lol, I hope so. If they Google me, they'll find plenty of information to see our bona fine relationship. :D

It's not just during the interview, you can even get denied at POE if you say husband/wife, there is a story on here about a fiancee from China getting sent back from LAX for it. The border agent said "wife" to me and I corrected her, and she sounded like she made an honest mistake, but who know's if she was trying to fish information out of us.

Start thinking like a lawyer. Words have specific meaning. Husband = man to whom you are married.

Fiancé = man you are to marry.

Same for Wife and fiancée.

This is why it's so important to know how to be articulate.

It's been a very informative thread, both educational in culture as well as immigration.

Not sure why that would be upsetting to you.

Latino/a is not Spanish. See? Now you're beginning to see how being articulate is important.

And to this proud latina I say, be humble, and learn something from those of us that have come before you and have some wisdom.

At my husband's I-130 interview, they asked him who "My Grandma's Name" was. At no point in any paperwork did I ever mention her.

Only things I can come up with is they somehow found that she was a co-signer on my car loan years ago and figured that should be an important person in my life so my husband should know who that is. Or they looked on his facebook page and my facebook page and picked a random mutual friend.

I have no idea?!?!
