K3 Interview Gone Bad

Hubby didn't get the visa. He arrived at the Cairo Embassy and a lady asked to see his passport, birth certificate, army certificate and marriage contract. She took them and told him to go to the TNT office to pay some money (so we thought that was for the return of the visa and passport after approval). When we returned back to the Embassy he was told to meet with a man. He met with him and he asked Hassan no questions. Just gave him all the papers back except his passport and handed him a piece of paper that said he’s on indefinite Administrative Processing with no reason. When Hassan asked how long this will take, the man said he can’t answer that question. He said that it could take one week, two weeks, three weeks, six months, or eight months and there’s no way for him to tell. When Hassan started to ask more questions, he was asked to leave. The document says not to call or email the embassy to inquire about this.

Now what????? Please help.

Sorry to hear you got AP and it is a black hole without any time frame. I suggest you contact DOS on Wednesdays or Thursdays of each week and ask if any movement on your case? They will not tell you anything and in cases like this DOS will not have any updates until the embassy is ready to process the case further. Good luck and pray for patience.

Are you sure it says "indefinite Administrative Processing"?

I didn't want to say much before, but Cairo just doesn't give same-day visas. The only people who receive visas fairly quickly are either female or non-muslim. He will have to go through the security checks that everyone else does. They take approximately 2 to 3 months. Then if there is a name hit, as in our case and many others who have common names, its another round of checks, sometimes including a complete set of fingerprints. and a few more months. It seems to be a fairly standard processing time for Egypt of 3 to 6 months to get visa in hand. We are now on month 8 but that was because they required some additional paperwork after the interview.

Without knowing more of what his 221g says, its hard to say exactly, but this sounds like the usual things. Just takes some patience. I think everything is just fine.

It sounds like the standard 221(g) for the name check. They did keep his passport. I think you're in the wait for the security check now, not a denial, but the Egypt folks will know better how Cairo works. If that's what it is, you won't get an answer on how long it will take; just try to relax as much as possible. It doesn't sound like the interview went bad, just sounds like the usual red tape. Hang in there. (F)

Sorry he was treated so poorly, but if they kept his passport and told him he was on AP . . . then it is just of matter of waiting till that finishes. They never do tell you how long it will take, because they don't really know.

Good Luck!

Doesn't sound like it went bad at all. If they kept his passport, it's a good sign. I don't think the embassy really knows how long AP/AR lasts. They never gave us a firm number either.

Hang in there!

its just the waiting game, but everything is fine, if they would give him the passport, that means he is denied fully, but if they got it, so be sure u going get the visa, just neeed sometime, am from cairo and i had the same thing, it took like 3 months, but since they kept the passport means they r not fool to keep it and then tell u denied, they have the power to say denied At the moment, so dont worry at all, its just the waiting game!!

Why would they keep the passport if it is going to take more than a couple of weeks? Not sure how Cairo does things.

Darlin... Cairo kept Mohammed's passport too and its been 8 MONTHS (and counting). They keep it if they plan to attempt to issue. They return it if the case is being denied or sent back.
