my receipt starts with MSC. and this is the current status. how long do u think it will take to be approved? Initial Review

On February 8, 2013, we received this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. Not to be rude, but there are approximately a jillion threads already made on this topic - a quick search in the Google toolbar will bring them all up for you so you can do your own research.

Also, you can study timelines from people who filed from South Africa to get a better idea.

Nobody can really tell you how long it's going to take, because there's no rhyme or reason to the USCIS portion of the process. Lately it's been local offices who have done most of the processing, so the wait varies depending on your local office. You can find information on your local office from the timeline feature I mentioned before, and you can call USCIS to talk to a Tier 2 rep to confirm your file has been transferred.

If you've read what I've said in other threads, why make a new one asking for the exact same information? There are three "how long?" threads right now on the opening page of the forum. I don't think suggesting you do a little research before asking extremely basic questions is rude. Answering the same question fifty times is annoying.

I didn't suggest you look on Google - there's a Google search toolbar here on VJ (upper right hand corner) that searches past threads and topics that have already been made here on VJ, and will give you VJ only specific answers. Learn how to use it - it'll be super helpful in the future.

I think that many people have never read this.... expect with government that it takes a long time. People think no rhyme or reason to USCIS, but it's a government entity, the rhyme or reason isn't meant to make sense to us, it's meant for them. Read this, it's helpful..

Initial review... that's what it's on unless you receive an RFE or until it's approved. Which had you read the whole part you copy pasted described exactly what it entails. Read completely, interpret literally. Or something like that... Pushbrk has the trademark on that particular saying.

I am in total agreement that the amount of "how long" threads is crazy.

There is a very good advanced search tool on this website that is just waiting for you to use it! Not to mention all the guides and wiki articles. Tally-Ho and do some research. We don't want to see an "OMG I just was approved!! What's next?!?!" thread from you! LOL

i filled in late november 2012 i recieved the first noa but nothing since then.is this normal that i wait so long? is there anything i can do to see where my case is at other than the case status cite?

Unfortunately, it's normal. The waits have been up to or more than six months lately. There's nowhere else you can see your status, but you can call into USCIS to see if there's been any updates.

"Me too" -- I filed in October 2012 and still have not received NOA2. I only mention that to commiserate. It'll come. Let's just keep propping each other up until then.
