Hi all, First of all I hope I'm posting this in the right area.

Okay so my future husband obtained a job willing to wait for him to get here once our visa is approved. My question is, based on your experience how long did it take for you to be able to work after getting married to your USC?

1. Once your fiance gets here, you will have to get married and obtain marriage certificate (About 4-6 weeks depending on the state).

2. You will have to file for AOS and work authorization. The work authorization takes about 60-90 days.

That said being on the safe side I would say at least 4 month after arrival. And based on your timeline, you just file for K-1, so it is probably 8-10 month before your fiance will get the visa. So you are looking at least a year before he will be able to start working. Is employer really ready to wait that long?

*** Moving from Work Visa forum to AOS from Family Visa forum as OP seems on that visa path ***

After you get married, you must file AOS- it'll take 2-3 months at least to get EAD.

Thank you for your answer. And yes it's a friend of the family who happens to own the same type of business as my fiancé's trade :-)
