Actually they do. Check out the root, news one, and other black websites. They are always complaining about the violence within our own communities. That's where I get most of my stories from. The problem is we don't have a strong enough voice. If CO and Newtown didn't happen, Chicago wouldn't have been brought up. It takes non minoirities to lose their lives for it to get to the national level.

You don't think there's more public/media outrage from the black community on this particular case than say a black child killed by a stray bullet fired by a black gang banger teen?

I feel like African Americans get more pissed about racism than murder at this point.

I feel like African Americans get more pissed about racism than murder at this point.

Because that black gang banger would already be in jail, if he was caught and then let go, you would see the same outrage.

That's the point that everyone seems to miss, it's not the color of the killer, it's the treatment afterwards. Gang members, drug addicts, criminals that are black get no special treatment. The baby that was killed by a stray bullet was posted on this website by me, when I was pointing out how little coverage it got in lieu of the Sandy Newtown kids. I was upset about it and have been posting about the disparities since I stepped foot in P&R.

The reason it looks that way is because when black on black, no one cares. Black folks lose family members every day, one mother lost all four of her sons to gun violence, and she made a passionate plea for change that fell on deaf ears. We are always told to fix our own problems, but when a white kid shoots up a school, the enitre nation comes together and new laws are being written to fix that problem.

I tried to edit my post but my computer froze. In the Mr. Dooley case, who attacked who? From what I have read, he lifted his waistban to show he had a gun since Mr. James was coming towards him. Mr. James then advanced on him and tried to take his gun away, that is when he was shot. If that was the case it sounds like self defense. But I was not there so I don't know all the variables.

The courts (during the Stand your Ground hearing) and the jury during the manslaughter trial all diagreed with the silly notion that Mr. Dooley acted in self defense. It's why he was not granted a Stand your ground exemption and why he wsa subsewquently convicted of manslaughter. There are no more variables there. He had his day in court and he is now a convicted felon. It's an outrage that he walks the streets freely still. I wish that those that protested GZs walking free (which is just as outrageous) would also protests Mr. Dooley's walking free. But that appears to be acceptable to that particular crowd. Why is that?

He killed a man who according to him was choking the life out of him, and he was convicted of manslaughter. They released him on bond and he still might be have to do eight years in prison. I'm sorry what's GZ situation right now?

None of the witnesses - and there were a few - supported Mr. Dooley's ficticous account that he had the life choked out of him. He's walking free right now. And he had his trial and he was convicted. GZ will have his trial - it will start next month. And when he is convicted and then fitted with an ankle braclet and let go, I expect you to be cool with that too just as you seem to be cool with Mr. Dooley walking free after his conviction for manslaughter.

The word is conviction, if that's the case and by the law he is released to work on his appeal, I won't say a word, but how long did it take to convict Mr. Dooley, and how long has it been since GZ killed TM and has yet to be tried?

But what you left out was Mr. James took it upon himself to try and take Mr. Dooley's gun from him. There wasn't a single account of him pointing it at anyone, he flashed it according to some and lifted his waistband to show it according to others. The situation is completely different. Mr. Dooley went to the park to tell the kids who were skateboarding there to stop, since it was against the apartment policy. James inserted himself into the situation. Dooley showed his gun because he's a 69 year old man about to fight a man 20+ years younger and in his prime. And maybe if James would have stood down he wouldn't have been shot in front of his daughter. He chose to rush him and take his gun from him, you see that? If I had a gun and someone tried to take my gun away, I'd shoot them too.

My outrage is color blind, if it was a white person in the same shoes, my answer wouldn't change. Right and wrong shouldn't be interchangeable, but that's the case here. Dooley didn't set out to murder James, he went out to talk to the skateboarders.

Mr. Dooley stood trial some two years after he killed Mr. James. That crime happened in late summer of 2010. His trial started more than two years later in the fall of 2012.

Mr. Zimmerman is to stand trial next month - just over a year after he committed his crime against Mr. Martin. He's facing the music faster than Mr. Dooley did - by about 12 months.

All that matters none. Mr. Dooley's killing of Mr. James was found not to fall under the Stand your Ground law and he was convicted of manslaughter in a court of law. He was not threatened, his life was not in danger and he was the one looking for a confrontation while carrying a firearm and then using that firearm to unlawfully kill another man. He should not be walking around free. As a duly convicted felon that hasn't done any of the time he must serve, he should sit in a cell locked up.

Besides, why does one need a firearm to tell a kid that skateboarding isn't allowed on the premises? If that's all he wanted to do, surely he didn't need a firearm for that.

I guess we can take victories when we can. But after reading about what happened to Mr. Dooley, I can't help but feel sorry for him.

James was playing hoops with Danielle that Sunday afternoon. Dooley came from his home across the street to complain about a 14-year-old skateboarder who had gotten James' permission to use the other side of the court. Witnesses said an argument between James and Dooley took a lethal turn when Dooley flipped up his T-shirt, revealing a gun in his waistband, as he cursed James. They said Dooley then turned and headed home, but James spun him around and tried to grab the gun. The men fell to the ground.

Dooley, who is 5 feet 7 and weighs 160 pounds, told jurors he had to struggle with a man 28 years younger who was 6-1 and 240 pounds. He said he pulled out the gun only after James grabbed him by the throat. "I had no other choice,'' he said.

You feel sorry for a killer? I must say that it's odd that you take Mr. Dooley's account at face value even if it is not supported by any of the multiple witnesses that actually saw what happened. But you doubt Mr. Zimmerman's account even though there's not a single witness to contradict any of it. And then you want to complain about prejudice? You've got quite a bit of that yourself there, buddy.

They said Mr. Dooley was walking home. That's the witnesses, not Dooley. If Dooley was white and James was black I'd say the same thing.

That's reason to shoot and kill someone? Of course not. By that logic, Zimmerman was justified in killing Martin. After all, there's no dispute that they fell to the ground.

I know you have a thing about gun control and I get it, but this is a reach. He put his hands on Mr. Dooley, spun him around, and tried to take his gun from him. What would be the appropriate action to do in this case?
