I guess I missed the part of the Casey Anthony trial where there was a racial element involved. Can you point me to it?

Do you think there has to be a racial element in a case for there to be an emotional response (perhaps a riot) to the verdict?

From past cases I would say there has to be. Off the top of my head I can't think of a case where a riot occurred because of a verdict where race wasn't involved. Although I have a feeling you're going to give me an example.

I see. Good reason to burn down your own neighborhood. Never understood that.

mob mentality doesn't think straight. the riots weren't like a planned protest or anything.. more the effect of built up repression coming out all at once.

True. Or they go into elementary schools with guns blazing. Seems they don't do it as a group though.

Or if whiteboy is just pissed about his mom not breastfeeding him as a child, he'll calmly and methodically compile (like only white people can) names and addresses and biographical profiles of people who must die, then hunt them down one at a time, kill them with the utmost precision and care (again, only white people can do this), and proceed to eat their flesh while jerking off to Robot Chicken.

It was just a question. The Casey Anthony case was an emotional one with national attention equal to the TM case. The possibility of a riot in response wasn't a " valid concern" in that verdict, I don't see why it would be in this one.

Well because there is a history of race riots in this country when a verdict is returned that a racial minority didn't like. As far as I can tell there is no racial component to the Casey Anthony case. So no particular racial group was "wronged" in the Casey Anthony case.

Blind, misplaced, uncontrollable rage. But the cops were out of control.

did you ever read anything concerning the condition of the ongoing relationship between the police and the neighborhoods affected during that time? all anyone ever seems to know about are the riots themselves. it's almost as if the community couldn't draw attention to its plight so it set itself on fire. and still people don't get it..

not to say that the people involved in that riot weren't completely off the chain. just saying, police brutality and profiling has a much bigger effect on poor minority communities than it does the general public. our understanding of living in those conditions is severly limited without access to some pretty in-depth, unbiased journalism. which barely exists in this country..

I never claimed there was a racial component to the Casey Anthony case. I picked a case in the same area of the country that had a large group of people following it and earned an emotional response. People camped out at her house and harassed her parents for days and days.

All I was saying is that the original comment of "how long does the sentence have to be to avoid a riot" is silly. And not a "valid concern" ... why would they even take that into account in the verdict?

If half the energy that was expended during those riots was actually focused on fixing the problems through the proper channels, there never would have been any reason to riot, not that there was to begin with. Those riots were more the results of the gang mentality and looting than they were the poor relationship between the community and the police. It was if the zoo had opened it's gates and the animals were allowed to run amock. That type of behavior doesn't float no matter what color you are or how bad your "plight" is.

the riots themselves involved gang mentality and looting. what lead up to that point had everything to do with the plight of the citizens in these poor neighboorhoods. personally i don't give much merit to the bootstrap line of thinking. everyone, no matter what class or color, should be aware of cops and their behaivior towards the least capable in society of defending themselves against mistreatment.

CNBNEWS.NET POINT OF VIEW: New Black Panther Leader Michelle Williams Calls for Race Riot

by Bill Cleary
(
cnbnews.net)
Tampa, Florida-Last week Michelle Williams Leader of New Black Panthers called for a race riot on the Nationally syndicated radio talk show hosted by Bubba the Love Sponge.
Michelle said during the interview,
“Let me tell you, the things that’s about to happen, to these honkeys, these crackers, these pigs, these pink people, these —- people. It has been long overdue. My prize right now this evening … is gonna be the bounty, the arrest, dead or alive, for George Zimmerman. You feel me?”
Bubba addressed her saying, “Michelle, really? You are so much better than that, honey.”
“My words that I spoke were very passionate, passionate anger of an activist, of an advocate, of a leader who sat by and watched so much destruction happen.”

On April 11, a few days after those infuriating remarks she was interviewed by a Tampa Bay 10 NEWS reporter. The headline for the report,

New Black Panther Party chief of staff Michelle Williams apologizes after George Zimmerman radio outburst

I heard no apology from Williams for those remarks during the 10 minute interview; in fact she was pleased that her comments resulted in the public finally talking about racism.

One has to wonder where she has been hiding all these years. It sounds as though she never heard of Martin Luther King, the racial riots of the 60's and 70's.The fact that our country elected its first black president three years ago, which is contrary to her radical views, is never mentioned by Williams or the reporter during the interview. In this 911 world you would think her subversive speech over the radio would have resulted in her being arrested for trying to incite a riot. No doubt I am expecting to much.

Her organization, the New Black Panthers, is the same organization that put a $10,000 bounty on George Zimmerman’s head. This is the same group that blocked voters from entering the Philadelphia polling booth during the presidential election three years ago. To view her camera interview click

The Blaze has transcribed the relevant statements from the radio interview. (emphasis added).

Williams: I just want to say to all the listeners on this phone call, that if you are having any doubt about getting suited, booted, and armed up for this race war that we’re in that has never ended, let me tell you somethin…the thing that’s about to happen these honkies, these crackers, these pigs, these people, these motherf*er…it has been long overdue.”

Kweli: “Ya, what she said was right– we got to suit up and boot up…and get prepared for the war that we’re in…this stuff got to boil over, and all your great’s talked about that happened to be bloodshed involved with revolution- true revolution means some bloodshed, so there‘s blood being spilled because there’s a new life that is beyond this bloodshed. There is a new reality that is built upon your original African principles and spiritualities and values and norms that is beyond this bloodshed. But we gotta go do it.

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

talk about bs.

the flammatory nature of this radio interview is the same as the sensationalized character assasination of tm by the extreme right.
