My fiancee just completed her medical at St Lukes in Manila. Very good thing I asked her what was done.

Regarding the necessary shots; she was asked by the Dr if she wants to do her immunization here or in the USA? First of all I did not know that the applicant has a choice of doing them there or over here.

Looking at the packet#4 list it states:

Mumps

Measles

Rubella

polio

Tetanus and Diptheria

Pertussis

Influenza B

Hepatitis B

Varicella

Pneumoccocal

As far as I know she must have these done before she can enter the US? I am I correct?

Please advise me please. These should not be optional...right?

i think it's optional cos my co-teacher didnt have these "stuffs"...if ur planning to have a baby then she dont need vaccinations (as what i remember,no baby within 3 months after vaccination), she can have it when she reaches ur place after the baby.

but rather have these if u dnt plan yet to have a baby, cos you have paid for these, this is also for the benefit of ur fiancee..

I believe all these shots are required at the AOS stage-not for the K-1................although it may be A LOT cheaper for her to have them in her home country.........someone else will clarify ;)

This a link to a table that shows the vaccination requirements by age. According to the age of your fiancee, the civil surgeon will order het to receive certain vaccination, if she did not receive them before.

I just got this from the example packet for a K1 from the Manila US Embassy site...

“K” visa applicants, as non immigrant visa applicants, are technically not subject to the vaccination requirement.

“K” visa applicants who refuse to comply with the vaccination requirement will not be denied a visa on that

basis. As a matter of expediency, however, it is encouraged that “K” visa applicants meet the vaccination

requirement before they are admitted into the U.S.

Here's my fear; even though the Dr told her that they are optional for the Visa and entry to the USA

what if when she goes to the interview they tell her that she was suppose to have them? Because

they packet #4 says ALL applicants must have them....just wanting to be sure and not make mistakes.

I am assuming you are going for a K1 visa...

K1 visas are considered non-immigrant visas... the line you are referring to says

U.S. immigration law requires that ALL intending immigrants be vaccinated against certain vaccine-preventable diseases before they can be admitted to the United States for permanent residence.

they do suggest you get the vaccinations before you enter the US with a K1 visa but it is not a requirement for K1 visas

Hey Jamrok. For K-1 the vaccinations are not required for entry, since K-1 is a non-immigrant visa. She will be required to have them before AOS. They are included in the price of the medical exam. So might as well get them and save yourself some money down the road.

Vaccinations are not required for the K1 interview and visa. There are required at the AOS point in the US. The doctor was 100% correct in giving the option.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...tml#Vaccination

Vaccination Requirements

All applicants for immigrant visas are required to have the following vaccinations, if appropriate, for age, medical condition, or medical history:

Mumps

Measles

Rubella

Polio

Tetanus and diptheria toxoids

Pertussis

Influenza type B

Hepatitis B

Varicella

Pneumococcal

As a fiancé(e), you are not required to fulfill this requirement at the time of your medical examination for a fiancé(e) visa. However, you may want to do so. These vaccinations are required when you adjust status following your marriage. [/i]

Many of those vaccinations are not age appropriate. St Luke's will give vaccinations as required at no additional cost. They do not have the TD vaccination. You will most likely need to get the TD vaccination and second MMR vaccination after arriving in the U.S.

None of the vaccinations are required for approval of the K-1 visa. All appropriate vaccinations are required for AOS approval.

How does my fiancee go about getting a copy of what vaccinations St. Lukes gave her. While she went back on the second-day for the shots, she was told that "some" of them are not "available" in the Phil. and she must get them in America. Since the results are sealed and then given to the powers that be once in America, how will we have any idea of what she still needs for AOS?

So just to be completely clear; she DOES NOT need the vaccination shots EVEN with the Manila embassy

in order to get the visa and to ENTER the USA? I am a worry wort and I just want to be 100% sure

and not have something this simple create delays. I have her stressing needlessly i am sure.

Anyone ever eneter w/o the shots and not have a problem? I think she is afraid of shots and would rather have them here when I am with her. Thanks again for your kind advice.

PS...it says on the packet#4 medical that ALL applicants should have the listed shots before entering the

USA.....so darn confusing..
