Hello all,

Hopefully this is not a repeat post. So I turned in the paper work for a I-485 in conjunction with the work authorization (I-765) document. I receieved two different receipts in the mail (with two different receptih numbers). I am able to see status on uscis website for one of the numbers (the I-765 one) and it shows that the card has been sent in the mail. Hoewever, while trying to see the status for the other receipt number (I-485 one) nothing shows up and it says nothing can be found for that number.

My questions are, is the work authorization card the "greencard"/ permanent residency card? and also, if I receive the approval for this wrk authorization card, does that mean that the AOS was accepted as well?

Thank you in advance.

The system is often not up to date.

No

It is accepted (you got the receipt). It does not mean it's approved. Edited by newacct

No

I have been trying to view the status since february. Is that typical? From what I've seen (checking other similar timelines to mine) The receipts typically show up together, while they can take a while to show, they do typically show up together; it also seems that most people have received their cards within weeks of acceptance of AOS.

Maybe the EAD card yes but not the green card. That takes months not weeks. Many people on VJ have been waiting a VERY long time for their green card approvals.

Often peoples 485 receipt number never work. Call USCIS if you are concerned and want a status update on your green card application.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

The I-765 application is about getting an Employment Authorization Document (EAD), in other words, a temporary work authorization while your AOS is pending adjudication. Once you receive this card in the mail, you will be authorized to work until a decision is made on your AOS case.

AOS and EAD timelines are unrelated. EAD is typically approved in 2-3 months, while the AOS can take much longer (3 months to more than a year, depending on how busy is your local USCIS office, or if your case is chosen to be waived from an interview). Having your EAD approved means in no way that your AOS is approved. An approved AOS results in a green card, which gives you authorization to work also. As said, the EAD is a temporary authorization (1 year).

The online updates system doesn't always work. As you noticed, it worked for your I-765 application, but not for your AOS. If you got your Notice of Action for your I-485 case (AOS), then no worries, the USCIS has received your paperwork. Wait for an update in the mail (RFE, notice to appear at an interview, approval/denial).

The receipts don't always start showing up together. I just had my EAD case show up for the very first time online on Friday when it got approved (Updated from "Case not found" to "Card/Document Production". My AP and AOS cases still show up as "Case not found". While I agree that it is very annoying not to be able to see the case status, I would not worry about it either. MSC is notorious for not updating their cases.
