We have established that the industrial revolution and beyond has caused global warming. So what caused the large fluctuations and ice ages for the 1 million years prior to the 1800 industrial revolution??

PS Was there not an ice age 20,000 years ago which was used by the first humans to travel from Europe to America..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

There were 4 major ice ages in the past.

"Causes of ice ages......

Changes in Earth's atmosphere

Position of the continents

Variations in Earth's orbit (Milankovitch cycles)

Variations in the sun's energy output

Vulcanism

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Do plants not thrive on carbon dioxide? I think the solution is to plant more trees.. You see so many new neighborhoods here in the US which have about 3 trees in them..

I propose you all go stand outside outside a hospital and heckle the surgeons. When you see 'em, point at 'em and laugh because you don't agree with their knowledge.

Charles, if a thousand different surgeons from around the world were all telling you, you need brain surgery, what's the likelihood of you even remotely questioning their professional opinion?

It's very sad that global warming is killing some species, but c'est la vie

Individualism...the enlightment that life is only relative to self.

Human nature is individualist. Natural selection favors instincts that promote the individual’s survival and procreation.

I remember reading an article recently, it might have even been here on VJ, that partially dispels that theory. Instead, it was suggested that there are aspects of natural selection that promote the species rather than the individual.

I just have to say something about the tree idea.

A tree, any plant for that matter, grass, flowers, whatever, converts CO2 into O2 which sounds like a good thing. However, when a plant dies, it converts back to CO2 when microbes eat the dead plant matter.

Trees effectively just lock up the CO2 gas for a period of time.

As the climate warms, trees will actually grow taller, larger, faster, but at nowhere near the pace required to halt the CO2 emissions.

Besides, we are still laying floors with exotic woods from the rain forest. Essentially cutting down the worlds forests to satiate yet another little vanity.

In my house, I put Heart pine, it was expensive, and the wood is soft and expands and contracts more than hardwood but it looks nice and I didn't rape the environment too badly.

Can someone hurry it up with the natural selection? Id like to eliminate these idiots.

so that means some will "take one for the species" instead of "one for the team"

Global warming is not real. Global warming is not real. Global warming is not real.

Global warming is not real. Global warming is not real. Global warming is not real.

Global warming is not real. Global warming is not real. Global warming is not real.

Say it enough times and you will believe it. :P

Or, if in the case of the coal industry, you buy enough influence with the right people in government.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
