It's not meant to be rude. Just a general observation.

I personally don't mind answering questions if they have a little more detail other than something VERY basic like 'DO I PUT ALL THE ADDRESSES DOWN FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS SINCE IT ASKS FOR THAT?", since the answer is in the question.

I've gotten a lot of info myself simply from posting on normally asked questions and either being corrected myself or correcting someone else.

It's strange because for some of the amount of times certain questions are asked, there are still people giving wrong answers or bad advice. So while it's annoying to see the same questions, I'm sure it's also annoying when some people use the search bar and find 7 different answers to a simple question, either because it's bad advice, wrong advice, or old and wrong advice.

There's no reason for me to horde anything I've learned from my experience and/or things I've read on the forums. I also don't believe that everyone asking the same question is doing it to be irritating, but it's that some people want a human confirmation in real time (semi-real time) instead of reading what, again, could be old, bad, wrong information. There are some people that want updated info within the past two weeks, there are some that try to use info from a year ago and then are surprised it's wrong (this happened in the canada forums with trying to snail mail packet 3's when it's only done by email now LOL).

If I ever stopped answering questions completely, it would only be because I made a guide or some sort of resource myself that I could point people too that was relevant to the question. I'm sure if some one asked me about the information in the resource I'd still answer it though!

The only thing annoying to me is the person question is not clear. Today a person ask how does he answer the question on The N-400 about how many time has his spouse been married. I told him to put 1 since his spouse has only been married to him. He kept wanting to put 2 as the answer. I found out he was refering himself as the spouse. The N-400 was for his wife. Then he told me I did not read his question and his question was clear.

So I do think people asking questions should be more clearer. I do understand there might be a language barrier. But at least try to ask the question the way someone else might want it answer or the way you will answer it

My suggestion will be if a person is asking a question for his or her foreigner spouse or fiancee ask the question from as if you were them. This is not just a site for Americans but other nationaties as well. Asking a question and assuming someone know you are the american citizen or LPR is not good

Even if there is a lot of information available in the guides, it's always nice to be able to ask questions in order to get verification that what you are doing is correct. Visa processes are confusing and stressful for a lot of people and even when someone can locate the information they think they need, sometimes it's nice to get reassurance or hear from people who have already gone through the process to get a better understanding.

The guides on here are great, don't get me wrong, but sometimes it's not as simple as plugging in a question and being directed to the answer that fits your situation exactly.

If someone is asking a question that is clearly answered in a guide you can reply with a link or if it bothers you as much as it seems to, you can disregard the post and go about your day. I prefer to do the former as I understand how it feels sometime to not know the answer to a question or where to find some information and I like to come to this forum to provide answers as much as I like to ask for them.

Maybe that's just me though.

The post below (with a good point) has been edited and returned to the thread -- we avoid transporting drama from other threads, so no links. :)

i really try to help people I can and not give the wrog answer. A loT of times I research for them. But when you research and get the answer for them. Then your answer is wrong because they did not phrase the question right

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I really like the message of this thread! I know from experience that using the Mobile site is not nearly as good as using the PC version. I absolutely LOVE the search function on the full site and read the forums daily. I know that currently I don't answer a lot of questions because I don't feel that I have the knowledge of people like T-Bone, Nich-Nick, Darnell, and countless others. I can admit that I certainly do, and already have, asked a couple clarifying questions mainly because I was super nervous and didn't want to mess anything up!!!

I just wanted to add that I completely agree with Heo Luoi about marking certain questions answered if that is an option! I know I always try to reply to everyone that answers my questions because I want those members to know that I appreciate them taking the time to help me and let them know that I read their response! If we can somehow integrate a way to mark a question answered as the person who asked it, or even a mod, I think that it might help with filtering searches in the future.

As I always say THANKS SO MUCH to everyone that is so helpful on this site. It really is the best resource I have found and the example forms really relieved a lot of my stress and nervousness with the process!

Lamest thread ever. If you don't like the questions asked, don't hang around. Not everyone is a native English speaker, has had experience with the beast that is American bureaucracy, uses a PC/Mac, approaches this whole immigration game through the same channels, or isn't frustrated and fretting about the process and doing it right. You don't get it your way, every day overly smug people complaining about the "caliber" of questions asked here.

I guess I am just a little confused about what the necessity of this thread is and why certain users are continuing to bump it.

Are you hoping that someone who is thinking about asking a question (legitimate or otherwise) sees it and second guesses whether they should ask for help?

If so, it's clearly not working as people are still complaining that "stupid" questions are being asked years after it was originally posted.

So if not that, then why exactly are people feeling the need to keep this alive? It's not really helping anyone and even if the original intent was not to be rude, there are still a lot of rude seeming and elitist posts throughout.

Many community members have been super helpful to my fiance when she asks questions here but there is also quite a bit of hostility that I see towards people who are confused about "simple" topics.

I really just don't see the need for the negativity. If you see a question you find stupid just simply don't address it? No one is forcing you to. It takes a lot more time an effort to sit here complaining than it does to just move on and accept that some people need a little bit more guidance than others.

If the guides were really as perfect and all-knowing as some of you seem to think they are, we would be putting immigration lawyers out of business.

So in all this time you've never created an account to help others and contribute. But create one today to whine about this thread?

Not exactly, I created this account today because we should be receiving our NOA-2 any day now. So far my fiance has been handling stuff on her end as the petitioner but now I need to pick up the ball and start doing more.

I had previously piggy backed onto her account and had seen this thread floating around for a few days now and wanted to say something since I had an opinion on it. I wasn't going to use her account to voice my opinion and open her up to backlash, sorry.

I will be here asking questions and offering advice to people from today on. If you want to follow me around to make sure I do just this then feel free I suppose. You seem rather invested in my personal intentions on this forum..

You misread dearest njs051914. I have zero vested in you nor your intentions regarding VJ. Do whatever you like. I have far better things to troll you nor your account and have my own issues. Quite frankly you're not important to me. You're welcome to your opinion. Thats why people come to the US.

Since the dawn of forums Moderators have begged users to help keep them clean and people to search and such and this thread is simply one simple post where some vent.

Why have some people bumped it??? Cause they are courteous and refuse to create more of a mess and start tons of those stupid threads. Its not a personal attack. And some users may read it.....take a second aback and realize hey yeah I have been kind of a slacker....i certainly have done that on other forums and here. Some may realize hey instead of just consuming maybe they will take time out of their day to learn and help others so dont see anything wrong with that either. You too could simply ignore this thread.

Welcome to VJ. Good luck on your journey. Feel free to send me a friend invite, I for one still think we can all be friends while maintaining critical opinions
