Yes that seems like the plan. Calling some attorneys for advice/pricing on this as we speak. It seems easy enough to research thoroughly and file on our own, but this is something we understand mistakes can't be made on.

Anybody have and references for attorneys they would recommend?

Don't call uscis for advice. They can't and won't assist you, and their operators aren't trained; they simply repeat what's already available online.

I would really do it yourself. Attorneys don't have nearly as much invested in the outcome as you yourself do. The forms are really simple anyway, I would have been more comfortable with my high school age niece filling them out than an attorney after reading some of the horror stories here.

And your case seems really straightforward, hire an attorney only if there are problems at your interview.

No, that part only applies if there's a Chinese citizen parent who has settled abroad. The OP has not settled abroad and her husband is not a Chinese citizen. So neither of them are a Chinese citizen who has settled abroad.
