I'm just curious if we should listen to the estimates of how long AP lasts. The COs tell people such different times - today for example, they told my fiance 6-7 days, but they told someone else 7-10 days. I know they've told some people 2 weeks, and others 2 months. What's the deal? And have they been accurate in those estimates in the past? Have some people gotten it earlier than the estimate? (yeah right!) and for anyone who got it later than the time estimate they gave you, how much longer was it?

And how would they know ahead of time how long someone's will take - "oh you'll get 10 days," "oh that guy will get two months." I don't get it, unless some of the AP has been done prior to the interview already.

Thanks for any help, and sorry if this is incoherent, I didn't really sleep well last night!

Ok, good night all!

Perfectly coherent and I'm sure many wonder the same thing.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

Well I am going through a different embassy, but an estimate is just that. They gave us an estimate of 2 weeks and that was a month ago. I think they will try to meet those estimates but if something comes up then it is out of their control (like in our case) and you just have to be patient. So *hopefully* their estimate will be true and you won't have to go through any more red tape. :star:

I agree that it's simply an estimate. There are some who have been told one week and it ended up being several months.

My husband was told one week, and was called two weeks later, so not far off the mark for us.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that 6-7 days is all it will take!

i wonder why they give arbitrary waiting times to different people???? Is there method to the insanity? gggrrrh

My only guess would be that different CO's give different estimates. Like one will say 6-7 days, but that's really equivalent to another CO saying 7-10 days. I doubt that they're deliberately making a distinction that the second case will take longer to clear. Who knows?

That's a logical explanation. Thanks! :D

I'm not sure about all of the steps that a file goes through once the case is assigned to go through security checks. However, I believe that our file was finally sent last Friday to D.C. I called DOS on Monday and they said that the security checks were just starting.

I called again this morning and they said he is going through the 2nd part of the security checks and depending on what the computer says after this one is completed, either he will be cleared or he may have to go through the 3rd part of security checks which takes 3-4 months. She said there is no way to tell if that will happen or not at this point. She said the file looked good, as far as the relationship, and everything is going along as normal.

Both times I called, the ladies I spoke with were very helpful and seemed to want to give all of the information they could to me. They even told me to keep calling back and wished me good luck!

what's the number to call? I'm hoping Casa will send it before the holiday, as to clear off their desks a little bit.

By the way, is Casa closed on Thursday and Friday? or just Thursday? I wasn't sure if they would be closed for Thanksgiving on Friday, or do they even operate on full force on Friday anyway?

Ok I found the number and finally got ahold of visa specialist. They told me that DC already received the request and they have already begun processing it. That was fast, thank God! I KNEW Casa would want to clear their desks before the holiday!! woo-hoo!

Good! I'm glad you were able to find the number. I was away from the computer for a while so I didn't see your messages until now. I'm glad that they have begun the process! It's nice to have some idea of what is going on.

Casa is closed on Thursday but they are open on Friday.

I'm going to call DOS again in about an hour to see if we've cleared yet or what progress has been made.

Hopefully, you will have the clearance today or tomorrow!
