Me and my husband is starting the I-130 process. We got a lawyer to help to make sure everything goes right. The problem I'm having is, She said that we don't need to send in evidence with it that our wedding certificate is just fine. After having a review with her colleagues before she sends it out. It was said that we should send in evidence after all or wait to see if the RFE us.She said beside getting a letter from then i should also get proof of the being us citizens Here a part i took from the letter to give to everyone i ask for a letter from. "it would be most helpful to the couple if you were able to provide a copy of your proof of legal permanent residence or citizenship in the United States Examples of proof would be: your US birth certificate, your copy of naturalization certificate, a copy of your US passport, or a copy of your Legal Permanent Residency car" I don't feel comfortable asking family and close friend for a copy of their birth certificate. Has anyone had to get that to send in with letter of supporting evidence. I think that's doing to much.Or would it be safe to just send in their letters with the proof of their citizenship.

We had sent notarized copies of letters, not proof of any citizenship. From both here in the US and from Algeria. No one asked for further proof of their citizenship, it really should not matter.

As for proof being sent, you may want to check out the Egypt portal for information. I know with Algeria it is best to "front load" or send as much as proof as possible up front (like many MENA countries) as they often make decisions early and/or do not always look at what is brought to the actual interview. Also, not that you asked - but your lawyer sounds kind of green in this area if they had to ask colleagues first before sending in paperwork. You might be better off doing this alone or at least asking a second opinion from another lawyer.

Best of luck with your journey!

For affidavits from friends and family it is not necessaey to show proof of anything.Ther name, address, birthdate and relationship to you is all thats needed on an affidavit.

Thats scary to think for a high fraud country a lawyer would say don't send evidence.

There is no guarantee they will send an RFE you could be straight up denied and many have. It's all up to the adjudicator.

You need to front-load your petition. Please visit the MENA forums and talk to others from your country to better get an idea what to present. You will see that "do not send anything is not acceptable".

Why would you want an empty petition getting into a CO's hands at an embassy they will make a decsison on what a marriage certificate? Fire that lawyer sorry they are mindless. and dangerous.

I'm going thru anon profit organization for help. And before then send out the petitions they have a review on all. Due to limited funds this is the less expensive way,so i hope,. I wanted to do on my own but my loving husband thinks it better to go thru here at least she went to school for law... I hope i don't sound to silly, do i get the letter notarized or does my family do that before they send it to me.. If so im going to be wiring money out to pay for it. Thanks for the reply.

I so want to get rid of her. I talk to my husband about letting me do it on my own and get help from people on here that went thru this already. But he rather take the lawyer. Now i paid her the fee and the fee for the I-130. To me i could done it better. It seems like i knew more then her but to him she know more then me. But look where we are now stuck. and I-130 still not sent out. I should done what i wanted and get all the evidence to send in with it in the first place. And she done this many times before.SMH

Your family and friends need to get it notarized before they send it to you.

As for the lawyer... yikes - your husband should join here as well so you are both informed - you can always add additional evidence at the NVC stage. They won't need it at that point but it will still be forwarded to the embassy for consular review. This is what we did as I had not found this forum before my husbands interview.
