I received The I-797 approval Hard copy today. I guess I was expecting some instructions. I know I need to be gathering information. Is there something more informative coming? If it wasn't for VJ, I would be completely clueless at this point.

After months of waiting, I suddenly feel like I'm paddling up stream.

Now you wait for the petition to be sent to the NVC and have it forwarded to the Consulate/Embassy in Thailand. Then they will send you instructions. You might be able to go to their website to see how they handle the K-1 visa. You will need to get a leter of employment verification that lists your job title, hire date, yearly salary, and whether this is a full or part-time job. It should be on company leter head. You may also want to get IRS tax transcirpts for the last three years because you will need those for the I-864 form when you file for AOS after getting married. Gather up proof of the on going relationship from the time you filed the petition until now. Get ready to have your finacee goto the medical which can cost around $200. Then there are the forms to be completed and getting ready for the interview.

Good luck,

Dave

They will send the instructions to the petitioner, or the beneficiary?

I think now they mail a letter to the beneficiary with the link to packet 3 unless it changed. You do not need to wait for it. As long as the embassy has your paperwork you can send packet 3 back to them.

I did read the guide. It is a general guide, But it doesn't specify what is needed. The download section has a list of possible forms, but not specifically whats needed.

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas/packets.html

From the link:

In K and immigrant visa petitions approved by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in Bangkok, applicants should download the visa packages from this web page. Receipt of an I-797 Notice of Approval from USCIS does not indicate that the case is pending with the U.S. Embassy. The downloadable documents below are provided solely for those who have cases pending with the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok. Please do not send any of the documents below to the Embassy unless instructed to do so.

Packet 3 instructions from the U.S. embassy in Bangkok:

Thanks Karee. How do you know everything about everything? Lol.

I just had a thought. Does the embassy contact the beneficiary by snail mail via the address on the 129? She has moved to Bangkok to make things easier. She is not at the address on the 129 any more. Should we be calling the 800 customer service number?

You need to send an email to the embassy and let them know about the address change. It's probably too late to notify NVC at the 800 number. USCIS is totally out of the process now, so no point in contacting them.

You can contact the embassy at either of these email addresses:

visasbkk2@state.gov or visasbkkiv@state.gov

Make sure your subject line in the email looks like this:

'IV Inquiry BNK2013xxxxxx'

The BNK number will be the case number you received from NVC.

Doubtful. Call NVC each day till you get it.

Then shift to calling DoS for further casefile status.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
