So I'll be receiving my EAD soon.

I applied for it so I can get a SSN so i can get my DL before the interview.

My interview is June 3d.

Wondering if I should get a SSN with my EAD or not.

The SS office is an hour drive away and don't feel like going there twice.

If I get it with my EAD , it'll say something about work authorization on it, is it ok to just leave the card like this or do I HAVE to go back to the SS office to remove that saying on the card?

I don't care if it says that personally.

In my opinion you shouls get it now, because you never know how long your greencard will take for production! Or what would happen at the interview atleast you will have your dl and ss in hands in the meantime

If you obtain your social security number and card by showing them your EAD then your social security card will bear the endorsement, "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization". If you instead wait until you can show them your green card, then your social security card will not have any restrictions on it.

Even if you have a restricted social security card, you are not required to go to your SSA office and have the endorsement removed once your green card is issued. Your "authorization" is, firstly, your EAD, and later on, your green card. Certainly you can go and get the wording removed, but there is no compulsion to do so and you are not required by law.

The only time you are obligated to go to the SSA and have your status updated is after naturalisation, where you must inform them that you have become a US citizen.
